Itās been brought to my attention that not everyone is being accepting during our month of April. Now when I say that, I donāt mean that people arenāt accepting autism and using slurs and whatnot. I mean that in our own community, there are people who are leaving out the severely autistics and saying they donāt count and they donāt matter and it ruins April for them, and thatās not fair. I know Iām probably not going to reach a lot of people and Iām probably not going to reach those who Iām actually talking to, but Iām going to say it anyway because one of my friends is being bullied by a community that should be safe.
Autism acceptance month is for everyone regardless of the severity, regardless of a formal diagnosis or a self-diagnosis, and regardless of gender, sexual orientation, special interest, race, intelligence level, age, additional disabilities, functioning level, opinion on functioning labels, and whatever else you can think of.
How can we expect others to accept us if we canāt even accept each other? Be accepting. Love each other. Support each other. Including, and especially the ones who need more support to function.
Be kind, love each other, and happy April yāall! Stay safe!
