Why travel for wellness? ASICS finds that just 15 minutes of movement can lift your mood more than an entire week at a wellness retreat.
As wellness tourism continues to rise, ASICS is reminding the world that you donāt need to travel farāor spend bigāto find peace of mind. This World Mental Health Day, the brand is inviting everyone to take an Everyday Escape: a simple 15-minute movement break proven to deliver longer-lasting mental benefits than a week at a wellness retreat.
Partnering with actor, writer, and wellness advocate Natasha Rothwell, ASICS is reframing what wellness really meansāmaking it more accessible, affordable, and sustainable for all.
Wellness Travel vs. Everyday Movement
Global demand for wellness holidays has jumped 33% in the past year, with travelers spending an average of $1,764ā41% more than on standard trips. Yet, ASICSā new study of 11,000 people across the globe reveals a striking reality: two-thirds (67%) said their wellness retreat didnāt meet expectations, and another 67% reported that the benefits faded soon after returning home. For many, the cost (32%) and travel time (25%) added even more stress.
By contrast, ASICSā Everyday Escape trialāoverseen by Dr. Brendon Stubbs of Kingās College Londonāfound that just 15 minutes and 9 seconds of movement delivers measurable improvements in mood and mental wellbeing. Participants who took a daily movement break reported a 21% greater uplift in their overall mental state compared to after their wellness holiday.
71% said daily movement reduced stress more effectively than their retreat.
65% found it more mood-enhancing.
73% experienced longer-lasting mental wellbeing benefits.
A More Accessible Path to Wellness
As ASICSā Everyday Escape Concierge, Natasha Rothwell will share ways to bring movement into everyday lifeāwhether itās a walk, a stretch, or a dance in your kitchen.
āYou can spend thousands flying halfway across the world to feel betterāor you can just step outside and move,ā said Rothwell. āYour Everyday Escape is free, simple, and yours. Wellness shouldnāt be a luxury. When we move, we feel betterāand thatās the kind of escape everyone deserves.ā
Science-Backed and Simple
Dr. Brendon Stubbs added:
āItās incredible to see how powerful 15 minutes of movement can be. Our trial shows that short, consistent activity boosts mood and reduces stress more effectively than a wellness holiday. The participants said theyāll keep taking movement breaks, with 81% now prioritizing exercise over attending another retreat.ā
Movement for Mind and Body
Gary Raucher, Executive Vice President of ASICS EMEA, concluded:
āAt ASICS, weāve always believed in the power of movement to uplift the mind. Thatās the meaning behind our nameāāAnima Sana in Corpore Sano,ā or āA Sound Mind in a Sound Body.ā This World Mental Health Day, we invite everyone to take an Everyday Escape and discover how a few minutes of movement can change your day.ā
