Don't know if this take is controversial or not, but I think Edmund is genuinely the best person of the siblings and I think that him making the biggest mistake so young is the main if not sole reason why.
Because his misdeed was so big (in consequences not intent) he went through all that turmoil and learned all those lessons, that the majority of people have spread out over their entire lives, all at once. He deals with all his flaws right away, while his siblings, who are viewed as good and well behaved people from a young age, have their flaws slowly start to show themselves and cause problems as they get older, leaving them unprepared for how to handle them.
Love the little parentheticals making sure you know that the housemaid is fucking LOVING that this hot scary giant woman just showed up out of no where and started terrorizing her employers
such a small moment but it's so funny to me how fast peter pevensie goes from wow good job bro πππ over the sad corpse of a suit of armor and the stained glass shrapnel of their (π°β) epic fail ballgame to immediately deciding the correct course of action isn't to easily throw said brother under the strict houselady's approaching footsteps but instead run away and hide from the consequences of he and his little brother's actions in a wardrobe together. and immediately all of his siblings were like well yes and followed him like a troop of loyal goslings <3 they could never make me hate these movies
If I start thinking too hard about Peter Pevensie sparing Miraz's life I'll lose it...
He hated him so much, he hated him more than he's ever hated anyone. Peter hated him for taking Narnia from him, cause that's his country and those are his subjects and Miraz doesn't deserve to be their king! He hated him so much, he wanted revenge throughout the whole movie so badly that his rage blinded him and caused him to make so many mistakes, until the point that he starts to hate himself, too. But still, when it came down to it he wouldn't take his life. And the thing is, that was a mistake, too, just from a purely strategic perspective (as pragmatic Edmund points out). But it was a mistake that proved that he was indeed worthy to be king of Narnia. Because it was everything that Peter is and everything that Miraz wasn't.

not to rant and rave about prince caspian 2008 but it really is sooo much that the first familiar face the pevensies see in narnia in centuries is the white witch's ghost haunting the same tomb she killed aslan in. like she's just a ghost but it's still jadis, meanwhile aslan is nowhere to be found but carved in the cold stone behind her.
i know nobody likes the magnificent moniker but if you were at 15 years old told you must lead an army with a deified lion the size of a war horse at your side only to then have said lion die to save your brother who you could not so now you must lead an army by yourself and your brother whose life was just saved you will now be personally leading into a fight against the ancient magic that just killed the lion and threatened your brother's life in the first place. and you are 15. and you DO IT i'm sorry what is that if not magnificent
no offense to my close and personal friend c.s. lewis but i will simply never be reading the narnia books <3 i tried exactly one time and hated the prose so much i didn't even make it through the first chapter but all my love to you king you slayed and it irreversibly changed my 7 year old brain chemistry through the modern game of telephone that is film and tv adaption
