"Sit still for her!!", Dwala annoyingly scolded at Diku. Their parents had left them again, she overheard them ordering Sarabi, their sister but also their apparent second mother, to feed them all and make sure they're all cleaned up before going to bed. Right now she was trying to bathe Diku, their parents favorite of the litter. They demanded she make her look more masculine and show off the little bit of mane she had. Dwala was doing her best to help, trying to just make her sit still for Sarabi. They all knew the drill by now, even though Diku was as argumentative as always. I guess she can't blame her though, none of them were treated fairly, including Diku. It's just another day in paradise.

This pic was meant to be for mother's day and my way to introduce Sarabi's sisters into my verse. Sarabi is the biggest one in the middle, and her sisters, from left to right are Naanda, Dwala and Diku.
Naanda: She is the mother of Tama and these two boys that i have yet to name. She is cocky and usually praised by her beauty. She is the oldest of the triplets. She sadly passes away during the famine caused by Scar's reign.
Dwala: She is Simba's aunt from the story An Unusual Choir and mother of Mtoto and Kitoto (the baby cousins in the story). Very cheerful and a prankster, she is the middle one from the triplets. She is one of the Pridelanders that stayed/survived the famine and then helps Simba fight Scar's hyenas.
Sarabi: The eldest of the sisters (she is part of a different litter). Bethrothed to Prince Mufasa, she takes very serious her future role. That doesnt mean she doesn't want to have fun tho. She can be very mischevious and bold, but sometimes need to play judge between her sisters.
Diku: The youngest of the triplets. she is the mother of Tojo (lioness seen here in The Orphaned Baby Birds story). Being the youngest makes her the target of Naanda's and Dwala's pranks, so she usually takes cover with Sarabi. She is very close with her older sister and admires her greatly. She also survives the famine caused by Scar's reign and helps to battle the hyenas.
Last of the three main characters of 'the Fires of the North' redesign. And her loyal companoin, of course.
Sorry about the bear, this is pretty much the first time I've drawn a bear seriously so yeah she looks awkward. -.-
Naanda is a loner who lives in the woods and prefers the company of animals over other humans. Her most loyal compantion is Winifred the bear, who she raised since she was a little cub.
Naanda is the one who starts the journey North which Pladra and eventually Marrim join.
Naanda is pretty stubborn and determined. She doesn't really like dealing with people much, so she comes across as rude and distant. But her loving and caring side shows when she's around animals.
Naanda gets along reasonably well with Pladra, but she and Marrim but heads a lot.
I noticed it had been exactly a year (and one day oops) since Iāve drawn Sarabiās Sisters and I thought Iād update their designs/bios a bit. This time, Diku and Dwalaās personalities have been swapped after reading about whatever little information they had in their bios in the TLK Wiki.
Naandaās bio is the same as the last one, the second-born child who envies Sarabi and is kinda mad at Prince Mufasa for choosing her older sister over her good looks. She is self-admiring and concerned over her looks like say maybe Zuri, but sheās not totally ignorant like she is (not riffing on Zuri, in fact I think sheās pretty funny), and in fact is there for Sarabi whenever sheās upset.
After reading about how Dwala was meant to be portrayed as more of the childish one in the Wiki, I made her the more innocent one instead. Sheās not foolish, just optimistic and easygoing. Sheās still the third-born child and the mother of the baby cubs in An Unusual Choir.
After reading Dikuās quote on her Wiki page, I kinda got this vibe that sheās the more prickly and grumpy one. Also, after reading about how she found it āsimply deliciousā for Nala to stand up for herself against Scar and the fact that she, herself was passive throughout Scarās Reign, I decided to make her a grouchy lil shit who loves watching discourse and doesnāt take anyoneās side with anything. Sheās still the last-born like the previous picture.
Yeah they do look generally the same but I mainly just wanted to draw more accurate and fitting expressions (save for the slightly different ear notches, palette adjustments, and added ear-rims/head stripe for Diku). Also their poses were gonna be WAY more lively and animated but I got lazy af and kinda didn't wanna draw this for some reason
I really like the way I drew Dwala and Diku. Diku looks super Outsider-y and may or may not have been responsible for the existence of a few of them (she was gonna be Chumvi and Kula's mom but I'm kinda questioning it now since I made Chumvi into Kovu's dad, meaning Diku would be Kovu's paternal grandma, and Diku is already Kiara's great aunt so it's a bit of a no-no at this point )

As some may know, Sarabi was originally gonna have three sisters in the original version of The Lion King. One of which, named Naanda, was originally going to be Nalaās mother (but of course that wouldāve ended up as incest, which is a big no-no for Disney)
Now the bios I have for these three are just headcanons, so nothing hereās official. However, I was kinda inspired by other artistsā/fandom membersā headcanons for them.
From left to right, we have Naanda, Diku, and Dwala.
Naanda: The second oldest of all the siblings (with Sarabi being the oldest). As a teenager, Naanda felt second-best towards Sarabi, leading her to complain to her mom as to why Sarabi gets to do this-and-that when sheāsĀ ābeautiful enoughā to be with Prince Mufasa. She seems to have gotten over it in her adulthood, but she still kinda has a bit of a bitchy demeanor. To Simba, Naanda is kind of the scary aunt who doesnāt talk and just always stares. The reason Naanda doesnāt talk to Simba much is that she always thinks to herself:Ā āI couldāve made a much better cub with that Mufasaā.
Voicecanon: Patti LuPone (Yellow Diamond from Steven Universe)
Diku:Ā (I know, she looks the least related to them. She just takes a lot of traits from one of the parents while her sistersā traits are blended more evenly) Dikuās the youngest of the siblings, also being the more... confused one of the group. Sheās basically kind of got the simpleton aspects much like Nuka has, but by no means does she ever get jealous like he does (sheās in fact very nice, very much so that it can kinda make her a pushover). Sheās rather accident-prone, as shown in the numerous nicks in her ears. Diku was the runt of the litter, believed she wasnāt going to make it through cubhood, but she ended up pulling through because her mother gave her a chance despite her mateās doubts.Ā
Hmm, she looks a little related to Kula and Chumvi, doesnāt she? She could very well be their mom for all I know. (it could explain Kulaās insatiable appetite. Since Diku is a huge pushover, she doesnāt think of the consequences of overfeeding her cubs and possibly spoiling them).
Voicecanon: Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay from Friends)
Dwala: You may recognize this design, I took the colors and design from a Lion King comic called An Unusual Choir. Since she was said to be Sarabiās sister (who was nameless so big opportunity there), I decided to adopt that design and integrate it to Dwala (I thought it was pretty fitting). Sheās a little impatient with her younger sister Dikuās cluelessness as you can probably see in the picture. (just think of her and Diku as Vitani and Nuka or even Raph and Mikey) Dwala is impatient with her siblings and husband (also seen in An Unusual Choir, basically a scruffy Mufasa) but never towards her two cubs (Also seen in the comic). She never lets her sassy attitude rub off on her cubs, so her personality does a complete 180 as soon as sheās nurturing them.
Voicecanon: Zoe Caldwell (Grand Councilwoman from Lilo & Stitch, but without the accent)
"As a cub, I was absolutely content in the bountiful life and lands I had been fortunate enough to be born into.Ā I had no reason not to be.Ā There was no shortage of food or of water, the locale provided sufficient cover that rogues were never a problem, and I had three siblings, younger than me only by minutes, with whom to spend all of my time playing.Ā We were the apples of our parentsā collective eyes.Ā Being the eldest, I was destined to become queen of this land, and I was amazed at the prospect of owning and ruling such a beautiful kingdom.Ā My sister, Sarabi, would be my right hand, unless they found a neighboring kingdom with a son to whom she could be betrothed.Ā And our two younger sisters, Diku and Dwala, were destined to become grand huntresses.Ā Not to say that Sarabi and I would not be trained to hunt as well.Ā The art of using the shadows to overtake prey and opponents was a sacred skill among our pride, one that each and every lion and lioness was taught to wield with expert prowess.Ā It was something that set us apart from the other prides, and made us the proud people that we were."
