𝓐 𝓿𝓲𝓭𝓪 𝓹𝓸𝓻𝓽𝓾𝓰𝓾𝓮𝓼𝓪.. ...this pouch containing postcards from Portugal was bought a long time ago, perhaps during my first visit back in 2012. My mom for some reason wanted me to send her a postcard from each country I visited and I tried to keep this promise until I realised that most of those mementos she kept before there was even a chance of me posting them. This is how I discovered this stack which sadly coincided with the passing of Dejan Tiago Stankovic, probably the most famous Portuguese Serb there ever was. I cannot count the number of private messages that I received from my Portuguese friends who either knew him in person or knew that he was originally from Belgrade 'like you Lana'. It's fascinating ( and I regularly argue about this with my Serbian friends) how much our culture is actually known and appreciated globally. Despite the current rhetoric (it actually goes back to the 90s) real gems of Serbian culture have reigned supreme, the rest is just fake news propagated by people who think that they are doing some kind of service to our nationality, shamelessly deluding themselves and generations to come. The ‘rule’ of life has always been very simple, you are never disadvantaged because of your background but because of your character.
