My first real experience with Hermes really does dictate the infinitely more out there way I view him (and many other gods) typically. It's more rare if they have a face or definable features and composition like that of a human. Whether that's faceless/infinite-faced Aphrodite, composed entirely of light (Apollon, Hermes, Maia) or peaking out from clothes that nearly completely cover them (Leto, Hestia), or those the essence of space with stars/planetary bodies throughout and/or darkness itself (also Hermes and Maia, plus Hekate and Ereshkigal). It says what it needs to, that gods show up however they want to either by our expectations benefitting us or by giving them the freedom to go for whatever they feel like or are representing at the moment. (The latter is my own personal leaning, the expectation, and understanding of the infinite). Not to mention the sight of star-studded Hermes is quite the sight to behold.
