And to add a personal note. 2017 into 2018 were rough for me. My mum passed away and this time last year I spiralled to the point that I got signed off work for my depression, which had been untreated for years. Her birthday’s Christmas Eve so it all came to a head, and the fact that the wedding I was struggling to organise was going to happen without her was the hammer to the last nail. I went onto meds and into therapy, and through a combination of those things and the unwavering support of my husband and loved ones I got through. But it wasn’t just them. After near enough 20 years in fandom, tumblr finally provided me with a platform I felt secure in. Through it I found a community worth being in, began harnessing my creativity in a fulfilling way and made so many friends. It was a place of escape I was able to tailor to my wants and needs. It felt like a clubhouse when other spaces on the internet felt like standing naked in a spotlight (but in a wholly empty room). I am a stronger person for tumblr’s existence, and for the part you all played in it, I am so, so grateful.

I have never, ever felt as comfortable within a fandom as I do right now. I’ve met so many kind, talented people and experienced wonderful things. For the first time, I feel like I have a creative voice that’s being heard! Took to lfg to find fun people to play with, got into this guy’s party ‘cause his tags were all “chill chat” “makin friends” that kinda shit

One of them’s playing NBA 2017 and playing music loud - the others know each other and are talking about a girl he just shagged and how he had to jump out her bedroom window ‘cause her parents got home. After a bit they asked me why I was quiet and before I could answer - called me a racist white girl and kicked me.
