#multiple storylines

Turns out the third episode was perfectly placed to build up my impression that there wasn’t enough character development or emotional grounding going on in the modern day storyline. I’m not going to edit my review, but Continue reading Untitled

So spoilers but it’s been out for a few days by now so, shrug.

I actually liked this one a lot more than other recent issues?

It still got slogged down with expositioning, but exploring the dynamic between cybertronians and other species that live or work with the planet is an interesting concept.  I could actually get behind a series of just the crew that we’ve seen doing space politics/negotiation stuff and... okay I’m just a slut for Star Trek, but this episode had a smaller main cast, and reasonable chemistry between Nautica and Roadrage with a fun adventure of the week.  

And I really enjoyed the whole sequence of Nautica negotiating with the bomb.  Plus the idea of how cybertronians would feel about artificial intelligence is an interesting idea to explore, even if Roadrage didn’t give a particularly complex take on it at its introduction.  But it could even act as a parallel to how cold construction was portrayed in idwg1, you know, more meaty conflict opportunity.

And they actually brought up something interesting I kinda spaced on, but everyone’s losing their shit about Brainstorm and Rubble, but no shits were given about the Voin by any character really.  Despite them theoretically being just as shouldn’t-be-killed as cybertronian characters (but it does continue to bother me that voins having slaves is just passively accepted?  If they’re sapient creatures that’s pretty dark for the government to allow, and honestly if they’re nonsapient it’s better but still not great, you know?  It feels like a character should like, have an opinion on other living beings having their brains hijacked for hands at some point.)

The waves break on the black rocks and come rippling up to die on the beach. The sea spray, swept aloft on the wind, veils the trees of the forest, mingles with the mists rising from the river and the marshes. There is something mysterious and wild about it, despite the beach and the palm trees.

Time is water.
