History: No History here. Just Minn/Mich cuteness Way back in 2016, I used to do little sketch comics in between the more detailed history-centric ones and I want to go back to that. I still plan to work on the Black and white character pieces, but these little sketch comics were always a good way to get character development going, and since I had an anon ask if Minnesota and Michigan were in a relationship, yes they are, and now it is canon.

I hope you’re prepared because this year we have gone completely insane, took what we had left of our budget, and decided to spend it on a barrage of movies for you all to enjoy.

Oh dear...I’m starting to regret this.

Avatars Involved: Missouri and Oregon

History This gives a brief run down of some of Oregon’s Exclusion laws- laws specifically designed to discourage or outright prevent black settlers from moving into the Oregon territory, and later the Oregon state. The white settlers enthusiastically supported them on their State constitution, even as they were also enthusiastic in being a free state. So further proof that anti-slavery did not always mean pro-black. 

That said, the law was rarely enforced and in fact, three of the four times it was, the white settlers protected the black settlers and kept them from being forced out. 

However, it did have the desired effect of discouraging black settlement in the area as most moving west avoided the territory/state 

And yes, as Oregon states at the end, a lot of this was at the hands of those formerly from Missouri, who had disliked competing with African Americans, both free and Slaves, and who wanted to not have the competition in their new place. 

Featured Avatars: New Mexico and Arizona

Notes: These comic kicks off this years multi-part story . .  which is not any of the ones I promised at the start of the year, but I couldn’t get a script for those I liked, so instead we have the (mainly racist) hurdles New Mexico had to face to become a state. 

And yes, New Mexicans are too lazy to be American Citizens was actually a legitimate argument in Congress against New Mexican Statehood. 

Arizona’s line “I literally passed a law” is in reference to Arizona’s rather infamous ban on Mexican-American studies, which has been struck down in 2017 has I understand it. 

Avatars Involved:  Louisiana, New Mexico, Arizona, and Twiggy England Previously,  Louisiana, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas had gone to help England with the heat wave. Which was going to be a throw away one shot until I realized if I had established State’s were going to be traveling to the UK, well it made more sense to use them rather than other states. And yes, England is clearly based on twiggy. Also, poor Louisiana, she is probably suffering so many insults over being a French Colony.

History Notes: Georgia did have a large Scottish population. Notably 177 Highlanders (who spoke mostly Gaelic,fun fact)colonists from Scotland founded the second oldest planned settlement in Georgia,  Darien, Georgia, naming it after the failed Scottish Colony in South America (well originally it was New Inverness).

There is no historical reason England would hate Iced Tea; she is just channeling internet memes LOL . In fact, as mentioned in the comic, cold tea was very popular in England (though usually mixed with something “a little stronger”) though it was usually referred to as Punch. It waned in popularity though during the Victorian era because Queen Victoria did not like the loose morals she felt it fostered.

The US, unconcerned with loose morals, continued to drink the Teach punches, though they slowly evolved toward what we know as Southern Iced Tea or Sweet Tea today. The first printed recipe using the common Black Teas now was in 1884.

Avatars Involved: Texas and California

Texas can’t let the fact that Cali my end up split into 3 states go without some “friendly” mockery. (and yes, if you did not know, there is a referendum on the California State Ballot to split it into North California, South California, and California) 

Ok, right right, Both Texas and Cali have trouble paying for and providing things. Clearly I am playing on the generally accepted notion of Texas as a low Tax State/Low Government Assistance State and California as a High Tax state/High Government Assistance state. It is a little more complex than that. 

ok, A lot more. And both ave problems providing Health Services, School Services etc for the public for more reasons than Cali has no money and Texas has no heart, but as far as characterizations go, yes, Cali tries to provide more free services than Texas ever would. 

Rome did provide bread (or wheat rather). And depending on what site’s you read this was either awesome and caused the fall of the Roman Empire and proof that government handouts are evil.
