Stargate SG-1 | Sleepy Daniel in 1.03/7.15
“when we’re young, we’re taught the distinction between a hero and a villain, good and evil, a savior and a lost cause. But, what if the only real difference is who’s telling the story?”
The change in her face is /so/ subtle, but at the same time it screams jealousy! Aaahhhh! I wonder when that change was for her. I mean Anne commented of the younger Rawson sister’s lips in 103 I think it was, and Ann had no reaction to it whatsoever.
Yes, good point Anon! I remember watching that scene in 103 - it’s the opening scene before the title sequence - and thinking that the Ann(e)s must have been hooking up by that point; everything about that scene screamed to me that they were together: their body language, the way they kept exchanging glances, and as you said, the fact that Ann isn’t phased at all by Anne’s clear pass at Delia Rawson; in fact, she’s loving it. WATCH HER EYEBROWS. They’re basically shouting, “my bitch bad” at the fuller-lipped Rawson. I was SHOCKED when the next scene did not immediately flashback to show Anne arriving at the Lake District and Ann excitingly jumping her bones.
By 106, the Ann(e)s have already encountered some *circumstances* despite not having been together that long. [Someone wanna help me out with the show timeline here?] It’s clear that when Ann is alone with Anne, she feels like she can take on the world (alas, she admits as much in 105) but that when faced with her tribe, the outside world making assumptions and talking, it’s too much for her to handle. She knows Anne is slipping away - at this point she’s less than a minute from asking Anne, “I’ve lost you, haven’t I?” (which means I’m less than a minute away from being suckerpunched in the gut) and I don’t think I need to remind anyone of the devastating monologue in the bedroom scene that follows.
All that is to say that yes, I think the “with whom” line is incredibly heavy and loaded. Anne first asks Ann to travel with her in episode 2 - EARLY in episode 2 - and it has come up at least once in every episode since, so for it all of a sudden to be no longer an option to Ann is sending her to new lows. I see and hear bitterness and jealousy and capital-P-Pain in that question, “with whom?” Because Anne taking off to travel without Ann is terrible by itself, but the thought of Anne taking anyone else - any other girl in her place - is enough to make a lady dash out of the room toward that porcelain vom-bucket on the bathroom floor so she can hurl into it. Hmm, sound familiar?
These scenes y'all. The writing. The acting. I need to make a gifset of just Suranne’s and Sophie’s eyebrows because I swear the two of them can convey more with an eyebrow twitch than entire casts of other shows can convey with their whole stupid bodies.
