Stargate rewatch - Uninvited
Boo, no Daniel. đ
Baâal clones are hard to keep track of lol. âOh yeah, now I can tell the difference.â
Okay, Valaâs plan was a good one. đ  I think they should have named each Baâal clone something different, like clone 1 is BasketBaâal, clone 2 is FootBaâal and so on. But I also like Camâs âtwo strikes, three Baâalsâ. đ¤Ł
Stop pressuring Lee, Landry! Maybe this is just a personal thing, but I donât like the symbiote poison gas (or the symbiote poison in general).
I honestly forget how Barrett was compromised.
Some more meta on McKay and Sheppard's sexualities because it's eating my brain...
So rule number one of Rodney's heterosexual performance school is that he must loudly proclaim to all around him that he likes women or whenever a woman is interested in him. Now this could also just be him trying to assert that he is manly and desirable because he's insecure about being a nerd, but I think there's more to it than that. Take Katie... only analyzing "Duet" for now cause I'm on my second watchthrough and I don't remember exactly what happens... I know there's a little more with her coming up, I think it was basically that he's a workaholic and didn't have time for her? Which further propels my theory really. In Duet, he loudly proclaimed to all around him that he had this date with this woman who was into him, but later, we find out that he's actually dodged the date several times and cancelled on her a whole bunch, this woman he's supposedly crazy about. During the date, he literally has nothing to say to her. Now this could just be that he's nervous, but I think he actually just doesn't have anything to say to her, I think she liked him and he was just like wow, a woman likes me! I should definitely follow up on this, right? But when it came down to actually following up it squicked him. Then Cadman in his body kisses Katie- nonconsensual for Rodney. He doesn't actually want to kiss her. He doesn't actually want to kiss any woman. Eventually I'll probably analyze his relationship with Keller... I don't remember it that much except that it felt forced and awkward and they had zero chemistry.
Now, Sam Carter. He basically says at one point that he fantasizes about her every night. I think that Sam is his unattainable 'safe bet,' actually, much like I think Jack is Sam's unattainable safe bet, which they literally say, because I headcanon Sam as mostly ace but unaware that this is an option. With McKay, not only is Sam unattainable, but she's also a tomboy, is a soldier and scientist, so she seems like the perfect hetero fantasy for him...someone he can never have who's a woman with masc characteristics. It's perfect for him. Also, you can be mostly gay, and someone as extraordinary as Sam can go beyond whatever your default preference is.
Now a little about John. So I headcanon him as on the ace spectrum but I also ship Sparky, and I think these headcanons can fit alongside each other. So I think Elizabeth is obviously into John and that's just straightforward. I think he's into her too, but get this--she's also unattainable, she's his boss. I think he loves her, but I think if he had her he probably wouldn't know what to do with her. I think his crush on her stems from probably some mommy issues and need for approval. The only time we see him explicitly interested in a woman really I think is Chaya, who turns out to be an Ancient, which is just funny, and also kind of falls into his whole unattainable mommy thing, maybe? At the end of that episode, Chaya has what is basically the Ancients form of sex with him, which is a chaste swirly white light thing (at least I'm guessing it's chaste maybe not who knows), and the scene just fades out with John saying "This. Is cool." Lmao. He's a lot like Jack without the angst, but I think where Jack hides his intelligence due to a myriad of issues like low self-esteem and for tactical reasons, and to keep others at a distance, I think John is genuinely both smart and dumb at the same time. Not dumb so much as...autistic and ace and doesn't understand social cues? This meta is going all over the place but actually, I think John and Rodney are autistic for autistic. They really would be happiest just beside each other playing video games and arguing over what couch to buy. Except that deep down Rodney wants John to rail him...and John would be like 'well, I'm open to it' cause he's just easy-going like that, but railing anybody is just not something that usually crosses his mind. Maybe once it's out in the open though, he gets a little curious! I don't think he's sex repulsed I think he's sex neutral. He's not opposed to it, he'd just rather fly planes.
Realistically, though, I don't see Rodney ever getting past his hetero performative insecurities. If I were to write a fic where he did, it would take so, so much for him to come around. Like multiple nervous gay breakdowns. It's sad, but I think he'd just burn his little gay candle for John in silence; maybe when they're old, he finally admits his feelings to him, and I think John would receive it very kindly.
I do also think John was trying to figure out if Ronon was queer when he first arrived in Atlantis. This feels like kind of a conflicting headcanon, so I do think John--in trying to understand his own sexuality where information isn't available to him and his questioning of himself is subconscious--is curious about any sort of 'alternative' sexuality, so when he encounters Ronon's bi vibesTM, one of the ways he prods is by flirting because he's found it to be effective in the past. Honestly I live for that scene where John asks Ronon if he was seeing anyone like a woman or a man; I'm honestly just surprised Stargate decided to be inclusive like that... I feel like each Stargate iteration got to be a little bit gayer than the last... SG-1 suffers from some late 90s problematicness, in Atlantis there's this moment, there's possessed-by-a-woman Rodney literally kissing Carson, which yeah, it's body hijacking and played for laughs and that's not great but still can't believe they did that. By Universe, we have beautiful lesbian couple Camille and Sharon.
Meanwhile, I think Ronan clocked John right away as a curious, repressed boy man who doesn't know what he's doing so he played it coy. Headcanon Ronon had a thing with his commanding officer in the past that was messy so he's just like 'yeah, I'm not going there again no matter how cute you are.'
John having been married to a woman in the past and that not ever being mentioned until like halfway through the series is a curveball, but also not, it sounds like the marriage dissolved because of him putting the job first and its secrecy, but how easy is it to view this as it being a comphet relationship that he let go sour because it wasn't what he really wanted in the first place? She says something to him like "I never knew where you were, when you were coming home, etc.," and it also sounded like the marriage was maybe in part to appease his father. Also the scene where she confronts him is where he literally brought Ronan looking like a hunky boytoy as his date to his father's funeral. Anyway, I wish peace and love and healing for any poor woman who had to date or be married to these men for any amount of time. The end!
