It was easier to run before, when the man with the lion tattoo had neither a name nor face, when she knew nothing of the person he was. And when that familiar lion rampant in black ink crossed her eyes once more, she very nearly ran again. Almost resorted to magic to get as far away from him as possible and damn the price. But then Regina looked into those beautiful blue eyes of his — Robin's eyes — and she remembered the man that he is. A man who adores his children. A man who fights for what is right. A man who refuses to give up on her. Holding to that, she pushed away her fears, determined not to make the same mistake again. No more standing in the way of her own happiness, and she seized this second chance with both hands.

And boy was it worth it!

HOWEVER

I have one thing to say about OutlawQueen.

This is literally the only time Regina experience pure joy in canon.

The rest of the show is just torturing my poor baby. The whole show is “how can we make Regina’s life terrible?” And the scenes with him are the only time we see pure joy in her. And I hate it. Because what do you mean she’s only allowed temporary happiness with this man??

Anyways. It gave me very conflicting feelings when watching the show. Because it’s literally the only time in canon she’s happy.

There's decidedly less greenery to be seen now as winter takes hold, yet Evie is determined to take inventory of every root, leaf, and stem that she comes across, starting at the south end and moving in a clockwise direction.

She counts seven patches of thistle among the clovers by the gate, a dirt path littered with crabgrass and dead leaves, a pocket of wild daisies growing from a narrow crevice in the wall foundations.

Circling to the western side, she comes to the arched terraces in gleaming marble that house several raised garden plots.

Thirty-two bare rose bushes border the adjoining pathway. Anyone else might think them dead, but that steady thrum in the soil beneath tells Evie otherwise. Not dead, simply resting. They will awaken with spring's renewal, and Evie is steadfast in her certainty that every single one of them will bloom pure and white as the driven snow.

It's enough to set her stomach on edge.

Continuing on ahead to the terraces themselves, the six plots about the edges house hydrangeas and calla lilies — also asleep and dreaming of spring. But the focal point, and most unexpectedly so, is the apple tree that stands in the central plot.

I do want to address this to everyone who's following Dark Paradise. IM SO SORRY. but. I am taking a little break to focus on a novel I'm writing that needs to be done before July (for a contest that I will lose but...I have to try, you see?) so, anyway. I'm hoping last week of June. Stay tuned.
