US Healthcare
Today we had a clinical practice conference about health care models. Almost the entire time was spent listening to one student (from Toronto) arguing with the pro-single-payer-healthcare physician panel about why a multi-payer healthcare system is best. It got surprisingly aggressive. I personally think that our current system is failing, and we should follow the lead of our fellow developed nations and have at least a baseline single-payer system. If we had the minimum covered for everyone, and those who wanted more could buy for better/additional coverage (maybe less wait, different doctors, etc), that would be a decent compromise. But what do I know? I’m just a second year med student...
