* Full disclosure: even though the Topps checklist name for this character is officially "Captain Marvel" for this set, the visual reference we were directed to use was her 1977 Ms. Marvel costume (unexposed tummy version), so just to be clear: Carol Danvers first appeared as a human in 1968 (in Marvel Super-Heroes # 13) working alongside the original Captain Marvel (or Mar-Vell). She then gained her super powers in Captain Marvel # 18 (1969) when her DNA fused with Mar-Vell's during an explosion, but those powers didn't manifest until her 1977 solo series, where she first took on the moniker of "Ms. Marvel". She later used the names Binary (1982), Warbird (1998), and eventually officially became "Captain Marvel" in 2012!
