Day #6
Today’s film is ‘Mr.Turner’ by Mike Leigh (2014).
As I have been painting almost everyday since I stay at home, I decided to dedicate this week for films about / related to art.
I wanted to start with a film about painting, so I chose Mr.Turner because of its beautiful cinematography inspired by his own paintings.
I will paste a link below, of a short interview with the director for you to check later.
As an art form, film creates, uses and reproduces other art forms. In this film about painter J.M.W Turner, the visual style becomes an active character as the frames create the frames of the paintings of the main character. We see this way of storytelling in several films but I believe Mr.Turner is one of the most successful ones.
We will continue with different art forms and different relations with art throughout the week.
Enjoy it!

A moment when Timmy's mom is practicing to go into a cook off.
Mrs. Turner: *crying and about to give up since everything is going wrong*
Mr.Turner: Honey, you're a great cook! *fire alarm goes off* See? Even the fire alarm is cheering you on!
MR.TURNER (2014) Grade: B
Even though the plot is slow moving, the main character is so interesting it keeps you entertain. Mike Leigh was perfect. The costume design was awesome.

This beautiful dress was first seen on Penelope Wilton as the Duchess of Kent in the 2001 production of Victoria & Albert. The costume was seen again most recently in 2014 on Alice Orr-Ewing, billed as “Second Young Lady” in the film Mr.Turner.

This green gown has been seen at least three times over the years. It first appeared on Daniela Denby-Ashe as Margaret Hale in the 2004 mini-series North & South. In 2009 it was worn on Jennie Jaques as Anne Miller in Desperate Romantics, and most recently it was seen in 2014 on Eleanor Yates as Effie Ruskin in Mr.Turner, where it appears that some extra trim has been added.
