The Bergmann MP 18 (Maschinenpistole 18) was the world's first machine pistol. Introduced in 1918, it was the first submachine gun used in combat during WW1, precursor to all modern submachine guns. Germany called these guns machine pistols (and still do to this day) as they used pistol cartridges. A design revolution that is still in use 107 years later, the Heckler & Koch MP5 is in use in more than 40 countries as well as with the FBI
