“You don’t gotta come tonight if you’re not up to it, B.”

It wasn’t that Faith didn’t want Buffy to tag along -- she’d love to throw back to the good ol’ days, if they were really that good. Y’know, before she went and blew everything up by throwing in with the Mayor. But they were older now and things weren’t so simple. Especially considering the blonde had recently just come back from the dead.

Faith was furious with Willow for reasons the redhead couldn’t understand. The Scoobies all thought the dark Slayer was glad to have B out of the way, which couldn’t be further from the truth. But what they didn’t know, didn’t feel, was how deeply Buffy had been at peace with her sacrifice. Slayers saw their predecessors die in dreams all the time -- it was a cosmic lesson from the universe not to fall in the same way. Drowning, stabbing, and so, so many teeth. But Buffy’s was different. The bright light, the warmth. And Sunnydale couldn’t see a path forward without her, but that was how the world worked, right?

Slayers called, Slayers died. No one wept -- except for this one.

No one would cry for Faith, would they?
