#motion control

Perusing their profile on Discogs, it doesn't seem like Motion Control were particularly known for making IDM, but you wouldn't really know it from this track itself, because here they've constructed something that's pretty neatly textured, as bubbling bits of percussion transform into acidic blurps and squelches, and a quartet of melodies eventually manifestly intersect with one another, with all of it laid over a bed of serenely light string pads that wholly lend this tune its overall chilly feel too. At around the three-minute-and-fifteen-second mark is when this one really starts to excel to a higher level, because that's when Motion Control decide to have their four different melodies play simultaneously: a faintly bleep-brassy weak-signal thing that was introduced towards the beginning meets two separate sets of acid, and then there's another complementarily squeaky one that I really can't even find the proper words to describe. The complex sound that's yielded from combining all of this together proves to make for a moment that is pretty damn satisfying 😌.

So, I'd never personally recommend that anyone drop acid whilst roaming through a desolate frozen tundra, but should you ever choose to do that for whatever reason, I think I may have a song here that could qualitatively enhance your trip—an underheard and understated piece of nicely built IDM from late 90s Norway, by a pair of musicians who weren't even really known for making that sort of thing 🇳🇴🥶.
