Ambition started early for Mothshade - would you believe that he was born three days early, screaming as if the world were ending? It scared his fathers, Applepounce and Oakstorm, half to death.

Being an only kid made being competitive and feisty a bit difficult, especially since there weren't very many kits around his age when he was in the nursery. It more or less resorted to the lilac tom getting in scraps with the older apprentices and getting beaten up pretty thoroughly.

As Mothshade grew older, his ambition grew with him. He'd only just been born when Rubblestar was announced deputy, and never knew a time when the tom wasn't in power. By the time he became leader, Mothshade had been trotting after his heels like a duckling for moons. 

After that, everything had a purpose and a reason. He calmed in an almost unsettling change. Where he'd once just been a force of nature, ferocious and bold, Mothshade settled into a placidity that rarely broke. To the point where one day, when he announced that he'd be moving to the nursery, there wasn't a cat they could immediately look to and identify as the sire. He kept it this way. And as time wore on, the devotion that had been so unerringly dedicated to Rubblestar had a twin in his love for his son, Houndpath. The clan, for once, came second. Not that he'd ever say it, though.

Nowadays, Mothshade has set himself once again on the path of devotion to Rubblestar after certain... events took place. There may be something else beneath the surface that he won't voice, but that's between me and god.
