A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder: Quick Review
Once again, I prove reading a murder mystery novel in the middle of the night is a bad idea. However, I still had soooo much fun reading this book!!
While is wasn't a comedic book, the fast pace and the distinct tone often made me smile while reading. I loved the mix of school reports, emails, and transcripts mixed in with the standard narrative. The author does not balk at addressing racism and sexism and white privilege, showing the impact of racial profiling and sexual assault.
Pip was a phenomenal main character, so active and driven!! We were often on the same page, and it was satisfying to have a character be smart about her investigation and her safety.
I liked the subtle romantic undertones that didn't distract from the bigger story at hand. It was sweet and respectful and slow. Ravi is lovely.
Also, I didn't figure out who did it while reading but wasn't blindsided in the reveal. Great amount of foreshadowing!!!
Despite how many characters there were, I didn't get confused with who was who, which was very relieving. I've read a few mysteries and with how many characters there are, it gets bogged down with random characters.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys murder mysteries, especially if you are staring in the genre or want something less scary.
Trigger warnings (not graphic): murder, suicide, self harm, racial profiling, sexual assault, and hate crimes
ps I did not realize this book was set in Britain lol, only a few slang words tipped me off that it wasn't American.
