wait, can i ask. what gave you the impression that jumalanpelko "somehow put more effort" into guard & viima's writing than the girls? suncat, mesi, sulosokeri/sugarpaws & ginger ear are all very narratively important and interesting characters with a lot of detail and care written into their stories. i'm not seeing this lack of effort you speak of?
(especially when viima's primary role in the main storyline is to serve as motivation for mesi's character arc...? like, the prev. suncat comics are fantastic, he's my favorite character, but... he is by absolutely no means more important to the plot than mesi herself. y'know?)
That's because the deaths of most of the women characters were more brutal than those of the men, and many of the women characters had their stories depending on men (for example, Ginger Ear, Mesi and even our protagonist, Suncat). Ginger Ear only formed a bond with her siblings after the comic ended, which suggests that the creator included it as an afterthought. I already knew that the story was based on a misogynistic cult, but that doesn't mean that it handles the subject matter perfectly. That's why I'd say it's only 50–60% successful. There's a reason why Viima and Guard make people feel a strong kinship towards them more than the other queens' protagonists, who are only appreciated on a superficial level. Because it is true that their plot depends on men.
Someone already pointed out that Lysti is another strange example of this. Out of all the characters that the creator could have chosen to hit with the transfemme beam, the creator picked Lysti, who is an eldritch. I'm not saying you can't create queer eldritch monsters, but the problem is that the creator has chosen to make her a predator who builds a skin out of an animal to blend in. They leave their young to be raised by the mothers of other species. This is literally the same stereotypical trope as 'trans women are freaks who pretend to be women'.
Edited note: by another mod, I will changed the terminology from queen to women and yes, the mod who is involved in the terminology discourse is suspended from the blog.
