but he did erase the significance of her death when he drew a comparison between his characters and anne when their stories are clearly not comparable. it’s disrespectful to anne to say “these two characters died young of an illness, so they’re JUST like anne frank!” because no they aren’t, there is so much more to anne’s death than just her illness 

what jgreen wanted to do in his story was use a comparison between his characters and anne as an emotional plot device, and to do so he asserted that anne frank and his characters WERE similar. he had to deliberately reduce her into something that he could compare to his characters, hence “she just died of illness like most people, wow, what a mundane death.” if he meant something else by that i really would like to hear it.
