gladiolus : describe a moment from your museās life that they will never forget .
the first time he flew. they'd been almost to the top of mount othrys, had already lost legionnaires to the titans and the perilous climb, and an explosive force knocked jason from the mountainside and into the open air ā then reyna when she turned to reach out for him. when he heard her, instinct kicked in, and even though he had the very brief thought that they'd at least be together as they plummeted, they somehow ... didn't. the winds had answered the son of jupiter's unasked prayer, and they shared a moment of delirious joy before toppling the throne & defeating krios.
iris : if your muse could convey one last message to someone they have lost or left behind , what would it be ?
don't give up. jason doesn't want to die, be he's lived his entire life under the weight of expectation and duty, and he's under no delusions about how heroes' stories usually end. if he has to give his life for the sake of someone else ? that's fine, he can handle that. but he needs to know that the fight doesn't end with him. there are always new faces showing up at camp, young demigods who need to be protected, guided, and taught.
of those he has lost ? he has nothing left to say to his mother. for so long her metaphorical ghost had haunted him, but seeing what she had become made it so painfully clear that family chooses. and she never chose her children. as a child to thalia, when he'd been left at the wolf house, his message would have been come back. now, it's i'll find you. he's not a helpless kid anymore; HE has the power to keep his family together, and he won't fail her. he would tell his brother @bringthunder much the same. wherever verso decides to slip off to when he does go, there will always be a jason keeping track of him. i won't let you go.
to reyna, a small but significant change: don't give up on me. reyna is, first and foremost, roman. he knows that when he disappears she will need to lead the camp as praetor, deal with the politics of the senate, and never show an ounce of distress lest the wolves rip her apart. but selfishly, with all the love in his heart, all he wants her to know is that he will find his way back to her.
sage : what is your museās legacy ? what do they want to be remembered for & what might they actually be remembered for ?
jason will NEVER agree with this, but he'll always be remembered as a hero. for better or worse, in all of its complicated nuance, he is a hero. textbook definition, tragedy and all, and that never necessarily made him good. just good at fulfilling a role. by necessity, jason grace must be remembered as a loyal son of rome, a champion of the gods, and unflaggingly loyal. ( because if jason grace could rebel against their plans, couldn't anymore ? if the most obedient son of jupiter could waver, that would mean disaster. )
jason HOPES he's remembered as a good friend. he's awkward with people and consistently underestimates himself or worries that he's done something to hurt them. he hopes that his chosen family loves him as much as he loves them, but would be absolutely content with being thought of fondly ā though not in a way that affects them for too long / derails their life.
what he wishes in secret ?? that when people think of him, they remember that they can always fight their destiny. jason has spent most of his life rebelling in small ways, hating the idea of being some larger than life idea rather than a person capable of making his own choices. if he can inspire that fight in someone else, he can rest easily.
