Carter Deadfield-Hayes, originally named ‘Archie Webster’, was born in Tasmania before being moved to an orphanage in Victoria when he was a toddler. He is of Indigenous Australian and British descent. He was adopted by a scientist couple and subsequently moved all the way to Philadelphia where he would grow up. His parents neglected him due to being occupied with their work constantly, to which he would constantly get into trouble and even escaped the house on occasion.
Carter was diagnosed with a rare disease that is 100% lethal if not discovered much earlier on, which he hadn’t been. To combat this, he was given 5 mg doses of a dangerous, toxic and incredibly expensive substance known as ‘Mutakia’. The disease caused his eyesight to deteriorate severely, and after trying to administer the drug himself, he accidentally spilled it on himself, getting some on the right side of his face as well, causing severe burns and malformation. A year after the incident, he got hit by a car while running away from home, breaking his leg, but then it miraculously healed almost instantly. Shortly after this, he discovered the rest of his powers and began to participate in underground street fights.
One day, the fighting ring was busted and Carter was taken in by the Guard Squad, where he found a purpose in life by fighting crime, becoming the one and only; The Peculiar ‘Morphing Kid’
Carter is a shape-shifter, having the ability to turn into any person, animal or object as long as he can imagine it. He can take its entire form or just turn specific parts of himself into that of something else. Carter is also elastic, being able to stretch, deform, expand and contract every part of himself. Alongside this, he has an advanced healing factor, which has allowed him to basically live forever. His healing factor cannot heal wounds he had before his powers kicked in, hence why he is unable to permanently fix his vision or his scarred face and hands.
