After so much heartbreak and angst on House of the Dragon (with much more to come). I just want some head canons that make me smile.
Here is one I have been holding on to for a while:
Daemon is an incredibly overprotective father but not for any of his blood kids. He is not worried about Rhaena or Baela, they are Laena’s daughters it is more likely that they choose their love interest and they will most likely call all the shots.
In contrast Daemon is incredibly worried about Jace, Luke, and even Joff. They are all so pretty and charming. They take after Rhaenyra so much, and while he loves Rhaenyra he knows what she got up to when she was young. He also knows that what happened between him and Rhaenyra when she was young is not something he would want happening to his boys. He absolutely doesn’t want some roguish man coming in and kissing his boys in brothels offering to take them as their spouse.
Daemon has never felt more stressed when his family meets Viserys’ Hightower brats and he sees the way they look at his boys. He has multiple heart attacks when he sees the one eyed brat (Aemond) and the drunk lecher (Aegon) make eyes at his sweet stepsons. He very much wants to take Aemond’s other eye for the way he is looking at Luke and punch Aegon in the mouth for the way he is smirking at Jace. He can’t deal with this he is going to lock his stepsons up on Dragonstone until they are 50 or until the Hightower brats die whichever comes first.
Daemon has never felt like such a hypocrite. He swears that Viserys has somehow orchestrated all of this to get back at him for the brothel incident ….. and possibly the wedding incident too. At least Daeron is away in Old Town away from Joffrey……… Until Viserys brings him back to the Red Keel to torture his brother. King Viserys has so few amusements and seeing Daemon slowly go bald from seeing these roguish princes of the realm try to seduce his children is the best gift he has ever received. He can die happy now knowing Daemon’s karma has come at last.
*Lucemond wedding*
Lucerys: We need a flower girl
Aegon: *clears throat*
Aemond: Jaehaera and your sister would love it
Aegon: *clears throat louder*
Lucerys: Yeah, but Visenya might be too youn-
Aegon: DEAR GODS, LET ME DO IT. PLEASE. I WILL SPREAD YOUR FLOWER PETALS WITH THE GRACE OF A QUEEN. PLEASE BROTHER, PLEASE.
Jacaerys, dark circles under his eyes, handing Aemond a hundred-dollar bill: Let him do it.
T-shirt that says "Dirty Little Proshipper" across the titties.

I’m cackling over the idea of the Greens and Blacks time travelling to the future. The Greens in this AU would be Alicent, Aegon, Aemond, and Haelaena while for the Blacks side it’s Rhaenyra, Daemon, Jacaerys, Lucerys, Baela, and Rhaena. No Joffrey, Viserys, or Aegon the Younger in this because they’re babies and deserve a good night’s sleep.
For some reason both sides find themselves in the future, everything seemed pretty much the same until an older Lucerys enters the room with a toddler on his hip. It was pretty easy to figure out who the man was, besides the mature features, Lucerys pretty much looked the same and Rhaenyra could spot her child anywhere.
Now what was interesting was the child on his hip. It was obviously his, judging by how familiar and comfortable the babe was clinging on to him, but what really caught their attention was that the child had silver hair and lilac eyes. The colouring of the child pretty much narrowed their guesses to WHO the child’s sire was. The possibility of another noble lord was completely cancelled out. It couldn’t be a Velaryon because the boy was fair skinned. Before any of them could try to guess or ask the older Lucerys, the doors open and nearly a dozen children bursts inside the room giggling and chasing each other.
The entire room gawks at the gaggle of light haired and brunette children entering the room, Alicent had nearly choked when she found one child who looked like the carbon copy of a young Aemond but instead of silver locks, the boy was sporting dark hair. There was one that looked like too much like Lucerys but had a different shape nose.
When an older Aemond finally enters the room, immediately sticking close to Lucerys’ side and wrapping a protective arm around his waist, Alicent all but faints at the realisation that her second son had married and mated Lucerys Velaryon. Rhaenyra wasn’t any better, the poor woman had all but clung to the younger Luke, holding on to him like a crutch.
Aegon, who looked to be the only one enjoying himself was busy counting the little ones in the room. With the toddler on the older Lucerys’ hip, he had counted about twelve and he could do nothing but bursts into laughter. His own brother had sired a dozen children with the bastard that he claimed to despise.
When an older Aegon enters the room, heavily pregnant and with a fussing Jacaerys trailing after him, Aegon stops laughing.
I have so much more to say about that AU actually like shit this has been eating my brain for weeks. Have some headcanons
- Rhaenyra calls Aegon her 'special boy' in much the same vein as she calls Luke her 'sweet boy'. Aemond is 'little warrior' even when he passes her in height.
- Aegon actually grows the closest to Laenor out of all the children. He takes his death the hardest.
- Aemond was two when Luke was born and immediately asked if he could have him when introduced.
- Laena doesn't die in this one, so Vhagar stays with her. Rhaenyra takes Aemond to Dragonstone and Vermithor basically goes 'it's about fucking time!'.
- Rhaenyra has a half second consideration of betrothing Aegon and Helaena and she asks him about it. His immediate response is 'please gods no. I love my sister but we'd make each other miserable'.
- Jace and Aegon stay best friends and make it everyone's problem but the only one who knows that Aegon is in love with his adopted brother is Laenor. He buries it in wine when Laenor is gone but not to the same extent as in canon.
- Aegon receives the love he needs to thrive and dedicates himself to one day being Jace's Hand of the King.
- Aemond, ever the ballsy second son, takes what he wants. He and Luke are each other's first everything and no one finds out that they're obsessed with each other until Aemond asks Rhaenyra if the gods of Old Valyria would bless a union between two men. She says yes he can marry a man but he's going to need to keep it a secret because the people of Westeros won't like it. This leads to a massive family meeting between the Targaryens and Velaryons about the fact that Luke and Aemond are determined to get married but they need heirs.

For a moment Aegon stayed in the saddle, even as Daeron and Helaena began to unfasten their safety straps and dismount. He scanned the circle of Dragonkeepers, looking for Pelearion’s lined face. But the old drunk was nowhere to be found. A prickle of concern for the man entered his chest, but it had to be brushed aside. Aegon suspected he needed to save his concern for himself for the near future. “Aegon?” Daeron called up from the ground, clearly confused. He had moved to stand by Tessarion’s head, stroking the dragon’s muzzle while the keepers swarmed to unlatch the saddle and netting. Another cluster of dragon keepers were doing the same for Dreamfyre, who was placidly licking Helaena’s hand. Sunfyre was not in a placid mood and Aegon was hesitant to dismount in case he needed to reign the dragon back. The Dragonkeepers could sense it as well, and they had formed into a circle with at least a few spans between them in case they needed to roll or leap to the side. Some had already brought out their wooden hookstaves and were gently tapping the ground ahead of them, ensuring Sunfyre knew where they were going to step next so he wouldn’t be surprised and lash out in anger. The source of part of Aegon’s weariness was a cluster of keepers who were huddled near the edge of the arena, sitting back on their heels. Each had a heavy iron chain coiled over their shoulders, and a nine tailed whip with a bone handle tucked into their belts. They had shifted as Sunfyre had been landing so that they were now in his blindspot, and with Dreamfyre and Tessarion on either side of him he could not turn to follow them with his head. As long as Aegon could see them it didn’t matter, but if he dismounted… “Aegon?” Dearon called up again, confusion becoming worry. Sunfyre pawed the ground and let out a warning breath, hot air billowing in front of him and disturbing the sand of the Pit. Several Keepers lept back on instinct, hissing a chorus of calm, calm, calm, in High Valyrian. Aegon ignored them and Daeron, instead focusing his attention on the only keeper who had not leapt back- an older man named Savit, whose shaved head was spotted from age and whose leathery boney hands never once shook on his staff. He was among the most senior of the Keepers in the Pit and it was him that Aegon addressed in his shaky High Valyrian. “To what need do you seek to chain my dragon?” He demanded, carefully sounding out each word and speaking loud enough to ensure he was heard. Savit inclined his head in acknowledgement. “Sunfyre is known to be an unruly dragon at times. Like his rider. It was suggested to us greater caution would be wise given the…” He hesitated then searching for the right word- one that wouldn’t disrupt the balance. “Turmoil of the last month.” Aegon’s mouth thinned, and his knuckles turned white. “And who suggested this?” Aegon demanded, switching to common. Many of the Dragonkeepers could not speak it, but Savit could. “The Queen.” Savit replied without missing a beat. Daeron looked completely lost to what was going on, and Helaena still was paying the matter no mind as she stroked Dreamfyre’s nose. “You will not chain him.” Aegon said coldly. “I forbid it.” Savit did not reply, and the Keepers with carrying chains on their shoulders did not move. Aegon’s belly boiled with sudden anger. He wanted to shout at them, or better yet to order Sunfyre to snap at Savit- not kill the man, but maybe put the fear of the Gods into him. “Please, Highness.” Savit said. “Leave us our charge, so you may attend yours.” “Aegon?” Daeron had started to move from Tessarion towards Sunfyre, and the golden dragon’s great amber eyes snapped to Daeron and a hiss left his lungs. Aegon forced his hands to unclench and murmured a calming word while reaching out to lay a hand on Sunfyre’s neck. Daeron- startled to be snapped at by his brother’s dragon- drew a hasty step back, but his eyes were full of hurt as he looked up at Aegon. It's not his fault. Aegon reminded himself. He’s done nothing but what he was asked and what he has thought right.
