People give her so much flack for being a bad mother, not willing to see how being raised in a small fundamentalist christian community that ingrained in you the idea that your only purpose as a woman is to be a mother, feeling the societal pressure to rush into a marriage just so you can fulfill that role, and have children due to said pressure, might make someone a detached and distant mother to children she never wanted to have in the first place. and between her and her abusive husband she's still the better parent as she at least looks over their physical wellbeing and takes care of other homemaking tasks, as opposed to him being well, abusive and having a drinking problem, and when he realized one of their children got replaced by anouhe just didn't care.

she feels constant pressure to put on the facade of a mother and wife to the point she's become completely disassociated from her emotions and goes about every day like a robot, the only pleasure she feels is by masturbaiting in self-destructive ways because as a woman in a religious society she's been condition to think seeking any sexual pleasure or autonomy is wrong. both her and her husband are in a soul-sucking marriage neither of them truly wanted but BOTH MUTUALLY agreed to in order to fulfill the christian society expectations of their community, yet she gets blamed for "forcing" him into it despite the fact he could've easily backed out before walking to the alter at any point (it's almost like they BOTH felt pressured to). women are always the party that's worse off in these kind of marriages as she has less agency and freedom besides being mom and wife

i've seen more sympathy and analysis of her husband, but to me she's much more interesting and tragic. she also had a bad childhood with a mother whi berated her for not living up to the feminine standards she enforced on her and and an enabling father that never stood up to her. there's so much stuff to analyze about her and oughhh god i love her so much
