For the hate-me meme - 6, 7, and/or 8?
6)Ā Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
I never had it happen where I loved a pairing and later hated it because of the fandom, but I have recently been disinterested in a pairing and then ended up specifically avoiding it because I have negative association with some of the fans. Itās kinda shitty, because I try to remain open to all pairings and I like it when a fan writer or artist can sell me on a relationship I didnāt care about previously. Ā I just now have to work past that openingĀ āughā feeling and Iām not always up for that.
The pairing is for Steven Universe, FYI, and Iāll answer which one in privateĀ ācause shipping wars.
7)Ā Is there anything you used to like, but now canāt stand?
ā¦. hm, kinda. Ā I was super in Bleach when it was first coming out and I still have a fondness for the original arc, but Iām really dead on anything that came out after that.
8)Ā Unpopular opinion about [insert fandom here]?
Gosh, ok. Ā I really didnāt like Transformers: Animated.
It had some great elements and moments. Ā Sari, as a whole, the characterization of Megatron, thatĀ āStarscream dies over and overā joke, Optimus being just a repair guy, some deep moral issues ā seriously a ton of potential, but I didnāt enjoy the show as a whole. Ā Too many characters didnāt change or grow, there was too much reliance on them being stupid to move forward the plot, everything about Bulkhead being treated as the dumb fat guy (and half-assed attempts to mitigate it), Bumblebee never internalizing or acting on a single lesson the narrative handed him⦠yeah. Ā
I think it bugged me mainly because some character did advance in compelling ways and some plots were well-reasoned, so the ones that didnāt stuck out more. Ā I mean, a major plot point in the last season hinged on Bulkhead not being clever enough to sabotage a project he was being pressured to build for the enemy. Ā Why this.
