yesterday the stage manager requested to join my rehearsal bc he’d never worked with me and wanted to get a vibe of how i do in rehearsal, basic stuff. we got half way through and he asked the director “so... you know she’s an ingenue, right? like, this is a 5 minute monolouge, we need to play to her strengths. she can play this disgruntled teen but it takes us way too long to accept that. the audience will understand her character way quicker if she’s basically a dumb blonde”
so we changed my delivery entirely. this monologue is now NOT that i am a shy loner who got enraptured by music and is deeply interested in meeting the man who plays his violin every night next door, no. this monologue is about a valley girl who is deeply aroused by music and wants to bang the man with the violin.
its way funnier now
