"The new body consciousness of the moga (Taisho modern girl) was manifested in the popularity of ocean bathing and the swimsuit, though the first bathing resort opened well before the arrival of the moga, in 1886 at Ōiso in Kanagawa Prefecture, primarily to service the foreign community in Yokohama. By the mid-Taisho period, sea bathing was increasingly common for young middle-class Tokyoites."
