Talk to me, baby
I've been looking into some modified exercise routines, and again I was confronted with an irritating microagression. Now, by no means all videos do this, but in the majority of cases:
When targeting seniors, they always address the instruction to the viewer. But when able bodied instructors switch their target audience to the disabled, they address the caretakers. Because who else would be needing to know this information.
I have a fucking Master's degree, you assholes. And even if I didn't. If I can find this myself on YouTube I can understand the instructions. And a caretaker, even when not directly addressed, may have the imagination to instruct their charge to do the proper movements, too.
Same with general cp advice. "If your child..."
I have no child. My godchildren don't have cerebral palsy. I am the one who lived into adulthood and wants some info. Especially because I have no caretakers, either. I mean, sure. Sometimes someone brings me a cuppa and a biscuit or two, but to expect my local barista to do my exercise instruction for me is a bit much to ask. I don't tip that well, and I'm pretty damn sure I have both a level of general knowledge about and experience with my disability that would be unfair to expect any random member of the public to possess. So why look to them? That's inefficient, no?
Disabled instructors never do this. And I have seen the fittest quadriplegics who put me to absolute shame with their strength, agility, endurance, practicality and kindness. It makes it extra grating when ableds take their ignorance and prejudice for superiority.
Just talk to me. Step out of your own worldview.
And please don't tell me to "be realistic" when I tell you what I want help for because then I know you don't believe in me and will not help me improve further than a certain point. (That's why I am looking at videos in the first place. At least I don't have to justify why I want to reach a certain goal to a YouTube clip.)
Argh! People ask me why I so 'rarely take advice'? That's why. Because abled people don't see me and when they do they discourage me until I do it my own damn self anyway and then they call me arrogant.
Nobody questions the quality of the advice...!

Workout Update
Okay, so I managed to rebreak my little toe (for the third time), and while it's been set by my buddy and should heal just fine, it's clearly put a damper on working out. I'm not allowed to run for a couple months. So . . . I'm looking for workout alternatives. Since I'm trying to lose weight, I need cardio options with no real pressure/movement on my left foot . . . which is a MAJOR challenge.Â
Anybody have an bright ideas?
