urban witch stuff
having a digital grimoire on freenotes or your notes app
saving tons of witchcraft related pins on pinterest, swearing that you will "eventually get to copying them into your grimoire". you won't. you have 10k pins in that board that you will never see again
browsing the candle section in shops for half an hour and smelling every single one of them
really into autumn and halloween for obvious reasons, but also because that's the time when shops start to sell more witchy shit
seeing wild animals in the city like !!
digital tarot decks, especially if you are in the broom closet
learning embroidery, and stitching tiny spells or sigils into the hems of your sleeves
buying cheap makeup and nailpolish and making the most out of it with glamor spells
keeping an app on your phone that shows you the phases of the moon
finding old occult books online as pdfs and reading them on your phone instead of scrolling
going thrifting and finding, like, the perfect jar
having to physically restrain yourself from stuffing your pockets with those salt packets that they sell in fastfood places
tea lights and birthday candles for everything. everything can be solved with tealights and birthday candles
sigils hidden in your phone case and wallet against theft or misplacing them
meditating on public transportation
having specific spotify playlists for specific spells or rituals
trying to have as many plants in your home as possible
finding ways to volunteer or give back to your community
A quick question for the fanfic writers of The Pitt fandom....
How is it that Robby nearly always has a zip-up hoodie on, but I don't think I have seen a single bit of writing about Robby being a selkie? It would also explain his commitment issues in relationships, the "not liking to be touched", and his constantly wearing his hoodie.
The shipping potential is off the charts too! Rabbot, Hucklerabbot, Hucklerobby... Whatever you like.
You can even work his mom abandoning him into the AU by having her leave him either at the order of her coat holder, or to protect him from her coat holder.
I just think it's a neat idea, and I'm surprised I haven't seen it brought up yet.
Okay more of this Pitt modern magic AU I was talking about a while ago. I've been thinking about side charcters. This ened up longer then I planned to to save your dashes ill put a cut
Langdon used to be a government healer but was disgraced and had a block put on his magic recently. He used to be very anti-hedge witch, especially Santos, who's been operating in the city for a while, he's seen her former patients befor and thinks she's reckless and arrogant. But once the block is placed on him and he's no longer able to practice he can't leave the life he feels so drawn to and starts working as an alchemist, the only form of magic you can do without needing access to inherent power. Official sources won't work with him anymore so he's forced to work directly with hedge witches if he wants to keep helping people. His and Santos dynamic is just as fraught but he's the most talented underground alchemist in the city and there two of the most prominent healers so they are forced to work together quite often.
McKay is a hedge witch. Having failed her magical aptitude test as a child (it's a very flawed test), she went through life assuming she had no power, despite strange things sometimes happening to her. She went to college to become a normal doctor, but over time started to realize more and more that she did have a power within her, it's just a little muted, and took extra time to develop properly. Now she uses it to help her patients, working out of a private practice that doesn't advertise her status as a mage. Her methods are very no-nonsense and focus mostly on traditional medicine, which she enhances with magic. She is known to all the local mages and is highly respected, even though she's technically a hedge witch. She is also aware of Santos and now Whitaker, hedgewitches tend to run in the same circles. She, like Robby, is very impressed by their tenacity and ingenuity, while also waiting with bated breath for the moment they inevitably monumentally fuck up and she is forced to step in.
Dana has the same job between this AU and the show. She has no magical ablity though she is an alchamist, her main job is still just the charge nurse though. She has alot of sympathy for hedge witches as a concept and is close to Dr. McKay, they respect eachother alot and will help eachother when needed.
Mel is a fresh new government healer working closely with Robby. She had very black and white views on hedge witches up until recently, thinking they are at best fools messing with forces they don't understand and at worst actively malicious narcissistic scamers, like she'd been taught in school. But when patients start coming in with signs of Santos and Whitakers more out there magic she is fascinated. Langdon is what really gets her to change her tone, though. He'd been her most trusted mentor befor he had his block placed, and when she hears that he's been working with hedge witches, she has no choice but to trust his opinion.
Abbot originally was a warlock, training in offensive and defensive magic for war. But he felt sick at the destructive power he had. Mages in war are EXTREMELY effective, and he saw what that meant firsthand. He very quickly switched gears, focusing instead on combat medicine and healing. His magic is much scrappier and traditional than most of the other government mages in the hospital, utilizing quite a bit of folk magic that the higher-ups would rather he stop.
The rest of the charcters I'm still deciding. Javadi, Joy, Ogilvie and Collins are probably government mages and are right now generally very much the same as they are in the show. I have not fully decided what to do with Mohan or Garcia yet.
Otherwise basically every side character can be assumed to be working with the government, there are not that many hedge witches. Also all the nurses can be assumed to not have magical ablity.
If you can think of anything cool to do with any of the characters I havenβt gone that much in to please please please tell me! The AU is still very fluid so most things can fit pretty well in to it.
Also here is a post going a little more in to how magic works if you want to read about that.
Keep in mind, Iβm writing this just after taking my sleep meds.
What if Trinity Santos was a witch?
She fully realized her powers a few weeks after her friends demise, and dove head first into researching both magic and medicine, hoping one day, she would find something to let them speak one last time.
She ignores the fact that if a soul has already moved on, itβs impossible to call them back to the living realm. She pushes herself and her magic well past her limits, and chose do become a doctor to at least put some of her research and abilities to use, even if she canβt see her friend.
Then, Trinity meets Dennis Whitaker.
He was so obviously a witching that it hurt her soul. Hell, she had to cover up a magical outburst to prevent their attendings from realizing and blowing both their covers.
But when she drags the Huckleberry to an empty room to ask why the hell he doesnβt have his magic under control yet, the guy bursts into tears.
He explains that his family had disowned him for a number of different reasons, and the top two were his sexuality and his magic.
And goddamnit, his life was way too tragic to be hearing about sober and at work, so she tells him to shut up, offers him both a room at her apartment and magic lessons.
And for a while, things are good. Trinity has a new magical sidekick in the form of a sad gay witch, a hot hookup that doesnβt mind when she makes the house decor float when sheβs exited, and movie nights every weekend because none of her fellow pittings have seen Hocus Pocus aside from her.
And if she gradually stopped looking for a way to drag her best friend back from the dead, itβll stay between her, her grimour, and the dead.

Has anyone stopped to consider how mystical modern medicine is?
A sage clad in white writes you a missive inscribed in a long-dead tongue that you cannot pronounce. You bring this to your local apothecary and give it to an acolyte behind glass, who disappears into shelves of mysterious substances and eventually returns with some freshly-mixed tincture, tonic, or tablets packed into a tiny bottle.
Despite the bottle's size, the substance within holds the power to change your mind and body in miraculous ways. However, the acolyte behind glass warns you such miracles come at a cost. In exchange for its power you must trade some piece of yourself: perhaps your appetite, your dreams, your vigour, or your comfort. You are reminded that if you find its toll untenable, you should return to the sage in white so they can adjust the pact.
Then they charge you one-hundred doubloons, and you pray your contract with the Insurance Demons will hold true.

π« stovetop tea kettle: the whistle is the voice of the kitchen. it's a reminder to pause and listen. in magical terms, it can act as a summoning signal. you can call attention to your intentions or inviting spirits/energy into the space.
π₯ dutch ovens, the modern-day cauldron: takes raw ingredients and turns them into sustenance. what's simmering inside is like a parallel to intention setting under pressure. it's on the cusp of becoming more type deal.
π§pepper and salt grinders: this freshly activated energy. symbolically, grinding releases the potential locked in matter. it turns what's whole into usable mini magic. pre-ground is inert meaning the energy is already dispersed. you could even charge your spices via intention before grinding.
π‘keeping the light on: light is an invitation - it draws spirits, energy, and attention to the kitchen as an altar. light keeps the kitchen awake and aware, even when you're not actively cooking. it's a small ritual meant to keep the hearth spirit "company."
πcookbooks as grimoires: recipes are formulas. ingredients are correspondences. instructions are spells. cooking is ritualized - it's essentially tactile spell-casting. so marking pages, annotating with intention, or writing your own "versions" personalizes the "spellwork."
πͺ΄drying herbs you grow yourself: this brings your intentional energy into the food and spell. fresh herbs is living energy and dried herbs is preserved.
π§Ήkeeping the space clean: cleansing the kitchen is about clearing stagnant energy. even seemingly mundane cleaning can become sacred. scrubbing, sweeping, or wiping is intentional purification.
π₯utensils as wands: the material of the utensils of course matters. metal is a conductor. wood grounds. silicone and plastic are rather synthetic so they are not as optimal...
π½οΈbowls & plates as offerings: serving food is like offering magic to your body, guests, and/or spirits. the bowl or plate is simply the conduit.
πdecorations: allows for energetic alignment.
