creating an altar to yourself: an exercise in manifestation and passive control
recently my best friend told me about a change he made to his personal practice that completely revolutionized the way he felt fortune flowed for him. i've seen people talk about creating an egregore of themselves or their alter ego, but this approach is uniquely secular and occurred completely detached from this online space.
and what was it he did? well, he created an altar to himself.
and i know what that sounds like, but hear me out. this isn't so much an altar of worship or reverence--at least not in the way we think about those things--it's a passive spell that runs in the background, an act of self-care for his past self, boosting his self-confidence for his current self, and manifesting the person he wants to become.
urban witch stuff
having a digital grimoire on freenotes or your notes app
saving tons of witchcraft related pins on pinterest, swearing that you will "eventually get to copying them into your grimoire". you won't. you have 10k pins in that board that you will never see again
browsing the candle section in shops for half an hour and smelling every single one of them
really into autumn and halloween for obvious reasons, but also because that's the time when shops start to sell more witchy shit
seeing wild animals in the city like !!
digital tarot decks, especially if you are in the broom closet
learning embroidery, and stitching tiny spells or sigils into the hems of your sleeves
buying cheap makeup and nailpolish and making the most out of it with glamor spells
keeping an app on your phone that shows you the phases of the moon
finding old occult books online as pdfs and reading them on your phone instead of scrolling
going thrifting and finding, like, the perfect jar
having to physically restrain yourself from stuffing your pockets with those salt packets that they sell in fastfood places
tea lights and birthday candles for everything. everything can be solved with tealights and birthday candles
sigils hidden in your phone case and wallet against theft or misplacing them
meditating on public transportation
having specific spotify playlists for specific spells or rituals
trying to have as many plants in your home as possible
finding ways to volunteer or give back to your community

I saw a Snake Shedding Spell on here and had a way simpler idea (the original idea was also good I’m just the laziest witch on the planet)
It’s a shower spell and you just need an exfoliator and running water.
As you exfoliate in the shower, picture or talk to yourself about shedding the old to invite in the new. Bonus points if there’s a cleansing ingredient in your scrub!
I love simplifying spells (etc) because I’m chronically ill and disabled and because disability laws are shameful in my country I have to work. I have very little energy left over for anything else, so the easier the better!

Hey divas, it’s your favorite necromantic witch here! 🧙🏻♀️I’m looking to start a witchy book club discord server where we can help other witches learn and grow in their practice. I’m thinking we can have weekly or biweekly meetings where we read a discuss folklore, mythology, spell books and just books for fun. We can also just create a fun safe space for witches to share and grow their practice. If anyone who sees why I is interested introduce yourself in the comments and I’ll reach out. As always stay spooky and whimsical. -The Winter Witch ❄️👻
Make a keychain with tiny spoons and enchant it help replenish spoons everytime you give it a shake.
My favorite spell, by the way, is from the Book of Vile Darkness.
It's called Were-Doom.
What it does it turn 1d4 random people into werewolves. You don't get to choose the people. You don't know who the people are. This doesn't benefit you in any way, you might never even know if the spell worked or not. It's just straight-up "I cast ruin four stranger's day for absolutely no reason".
It's a spell that can only exist in a world with ontologically evil people who follow an inverted morality where they're committed to making as many bad things happen as possible, and I have to admire the sheer balls of it.
