helloooooooo mon frere! actually..... could you explain all your choices behind your playlist picks? :33 imaginary amvs, vibes, importance to your main spacejunk story, etc... i loooove hearing these kinds of things
auggg If I try to explain ALL 65 current songs I will never finish lmfao. But I can focus on those songs that are more meaningful to me. Some are more related to the au and the rest are just for the vibes/lyrics.
For example, "Please, Please Please" is SOOO RaZR to me. Like, I imagine an scenario where those idiots are dating in secret 'cause Red is SO embarrased to have a crush on someone so dumb and chaotic and I can totally see this song in the context of Impeding Doom I where Red is BEGGING Zim to avoid doing something stupid for once in his life (spoilers, he does something stupid). My favorite lyrics, "heartbreak is one thing, my ego is another", "I beg you, don't embarras me, motherfucker", "If you wanna go and be stupid, don't do it in front of me". That is sooo Red tired of Zim's shit. I don't care much about Sabrina's music but I love this song so much because of how I HEAVILY connected it with my otp.
There's also "Kraken" by Florence and The Machine. I know it has another very different meaning, but I cannot help to associate the song with obsessive love becoming dangerous. I can see the context of someone loving the other so much that it makes him do everything to achieve to be seen by his lover, to be always close to him. Love makes of him a monster hungry for love and attention as it also makes him terrifying and deadly. You can tell that, to me, this song is about Zim. About how his fake mission actually played very well for him, because now he earned the best excuse to ALWAYS be in contact with the tallest, and NOTHING will stop him to get what he wants, not even the lies and the far distance. He will always get away with it, he will do whatever it takes to gain their attention, to be seen. And it's so terrifying for Red of being the Tallest and yet feeling so small, powerless and vulnerable at something so monstrous as Zim's love, love that almost killed him in several times. Anyway, I love this song. My favorite lyrics: "when your hand reached out I just pushed you further down, well do you see me now?", "did you know how big would I become and how much I would eat? so glamorous and ravenous as I drag you off your feet", "You said I would be nothing but look, I'm really something", "Do I terrify?" There's "Stuck on you" by Failure, but I added Paramore's cover 'cause it's better than the original in my humble opinion. I like to associate this song with Red feeling troubled and frustrated by the intrusive thoughts about Zim. Nothing much to add honestly, I just love the vibes this song gives me. My favorite lyrics: "I claimed I didn't care for you, but your verse got trapped inside my head", "I thought I'd drop you easily, but that was not to be", "I'm too tired to fight your rhyme" Another with similar vibes is also "Terrible Thought" by Poe. There's "Softcore" by The Neighbourhood. This song is a heavy one in the playlist. It was one of the first songs (if not the very first one) that gave me the RaZR vibes. Mostly for it's rhytm, but also for the lyrics. And again, I know they have different meaning, but I could associate it with how Zim's situation of playing around with this fake mission is starting to consume him deep inside, but he also has the need to keep himself together and keep trying to make Red proud, despite of his reality. Sometimes Zim thinks on just giving up and abandon his mission, but at the same time he knows he would be miserable without it. My favorite lyrics: "You've been my muse for a long time", "Sharing my heart is tearing me apart, but I know I'd miss you if I left right now" "Doing what I can, tryna be a man", "I don't want to play this part but I do, all for you". There's "Deep Green" by Marika Hackman, this one is more associated with my au's context: when both Red and Zim are starting to open up and know each other better, they notice something's changing between them, their feelings are just starting to flourish but it scares them since it makes them feel vulnerable and they still don't trust each other enough to allow that, so they try to keep a safe distance, althought it's already too late for that. My favorite lyrics: "Just because I love your skin doesn't mean I'll jump in", "I'm scared of getting in", "I know that I'm unwell, my body's made of shell and I know that you can tell"
There's "A Temporary High" by AURORA, the very main reason why my au's forth arc is named "A Temporary Lie", and I mostly associate it with how Zim sees his situation with the Tallest, he always sees himself running after their love but they always seem unreachable for him, and that feeling keeps haunting him even if he's getting close to them now that they are stuck with him. Despite everything, Zim loves them deeply but he constantly needs to remind himself that their company is only temporary. I connected this song more with my thoughts of Zim's and The Tallest's relationship in general, before I even started to ship RaZR. My favorite lyrics: "Our hearts sing a temporary lie", "When you run she's running faster, and when you love you better hope her love is not a temporary high". Another song that gives me a very similar vibe is "Red Flag" by The Moth and The Flame.
There's another song by Florence + The Machine, "Buckle". I like to contextualize this song with a one sided love..... and Zim being a complete pathetic crumbler for Red's love. and that's mostly the best and shortest explanation I have for the song xD. My favorite lyrics: "I'm stupid and I'm damaged and you're a disaster, when you walk into the room oh none of it matters", "And you close the door and leave me screaming on the floor", "I know it won't work but make it ache, make it hurt", "I'm not better than this, show me what I'm worth".
Then we have "Delicate" by Damien Rice (melodramatic song, yaaaay!!). This one is more about how fragile their relationship actually is in the au, not because they are to blame but because it was meant to die, and they both know it so very well. At some point in the story, they'll accept they have fallen in love, they will start dating in secret and they will try to enjoy their moments together. But those moments are inevitably filled with sadness, because they are conscious that what they have won't last long. They'll correspond each other and still they won't allow themselves to make it official. They won't even dare to say "I love you" because what's the point anyway? if at the end of the day it won't mean nothing when Red returns to Irk and they'll have to say goodbye and never see each other again. Yikes. My favorite lyrics: "It's not that we're scared, it's just that it's delicate", "When there's nothing to give, well how can we ask for more?", "Why do you fill my sorrows with the words you borrowed from the only place that you've known?". Another song with a similar meaning: "Born to Die" by Lana Del Rey.
And the very last one of the playlist, which is also the last hymn for the forth arc: "Memorial" by Susanne Sundfør, it takes place when they finally part. It's a song about loss and to me, it's the very image of a lonely and heartbroken Zim watching how The Massive is slowly drifting his lover away from him. It seems it always ends like this for him. Yikes again. My favorite lyrics: "A cosmic war raging in the sky, but all I could hear was your last goodbye", "Maybe one day we'll be free, but all I ever wanted was for you to want me", "You won't come back again", "Even if the world should end, still, I would never let anybody else come in".
So yeah, that's it for now. Thanks for reading my bible.
