Trying to fight art block right now

So...
The "Adventures of Silverwing" would have hit the shelves about the time Twilight was still in Magic Kindergarden or just after beginning her time at the school for gifted unicorns. In any case, you could consider the series as their Tolkien or Verne in comparison to Daring Do's Indiana Jones and Harry Potter.
The series was a smash hit, especially among the academics who found the author's breadth of knowledge to be just as much a mystery as the story itself.
Not that most ponies would be aware that the first edition the public received is in fact censored. If you can imagine the rumors that Daring Do's adventures are in fact real as of later days, you can imagine that with Silverwing's account, this detail was far more obvious in the original edition.
By the time frame of season one, there are only known remaining copies of the original set with one being in the restricted section of the Canterlot Royal library... and the other being eventually added to Twilight's collection post-coronation.
_
There used to be other copies, but they were quickly snatched up not long after a series of incidents, such as small group of stubborn unicorns used the notes and diagrams from the novels to summon a human. While I can say that it was successful if the intent was to bring a human to this world, but their hopes of meeting the mysterious nearly hairless bipedal apes would be very quickly dashed when a very confused pony popped out instead.
The remaining copies were hunted down and confiscated not that long after... albeit not without the former human getting a considerable amount of time in therapy.
In the end though, most copies of the Adventures of Silverwing are lacking the components that made the original copy of the series almost legendary among theorists and scholars alike.
Not that the censored version in its reduced form is entirely lacking juicy information. You just can't use it to cast any crazy, potentially world-ending and reality breaking spells while using it as a reference.
_
When it comes to by the time of G5 or counterparts, while the series is still likely printed even by that era, the idea of the books carrying secret knowledge has pretty much reduced to nothing more than an urban legend or rumor.
Not that it matters as much, all those years of published books, spin-offs, movies, games, and more likely would have rapidly altered perceptions of the series at large.

If I were to try to explain what sort of duty the "Princess of magic" does for Equestria... it might be best explained as that it's her job to monitor and maintain the hidden workings.
In other words, if raising and lowering the sun and moon is equivalent to turning a faucet on and off, then it's her job to make sure that only water is going to come put of the spout.
It's complicated and kinda difficult explain... since they have to juggle everything from approving new weather schedules to making sure any potential threats are handled correctly.
Problem is that threat management can clash with the plans of other divisions.
I mean, allowing Parasprites to swarm might cause agriculture to complain, but it means that later on, they won't spend a large chunk of the defense budget just to stick a live orchestra on a wagon and wheel it around like they usually have to do every year.

“So... I was wondering... If I lent Fluttershy a bunch of animals that normally only appear in fiction... How long do you suppose it would take before she catches on that they’re not actually real?” Admittedly, the younger princess while she seemed intently reading a book at the moment, was feeling a bit on the bored side and was looking for some form of amusement.
“On the other hand, even if I could find ways to get past Twilight’s detection spells, anypony like Discord probably would catch that little bit of harmless mischief right away... Thoughts?”
