via @emmas.lettering: "Those who don’t know me personally might not know that I am #biracial ☺️ my dad and his whole side of the family were all born in #Latin America, not white, and #English is not the first language. If you know my last name you might not be too surprised at this, but sometimes when I say this to people, I receive genuinely shocked responses. I am very #whitepassing, so I get it for sure. But at the same time, with my last name and dark hair, I wonder how some people didn’t see it? 🤔 Since I am #mixed, I will never experience this to the same level as say, my dad, or anybody not mixed. But I have still experienced some micro aggressions, slightly rude comments, etc. I made this with these comments in my head, hearing and picturing exactly which people have said these to me. A lot of the time, they are not meant to be rude or hurtful. But they can be. That’s why I made this - it’s important to choose your words wisely, especially when you don’t mean it to be rude! This is the perfect time for everybody (including myself!) to educate themselves on #antiracism, on comments that can be considered a #microaggression, and how you can approach people about this topic.☺️ I would like to keep making some lettering art like this, so we will see how this one goes and go from here 👀🤷🏻♀️ sharing my #mixedexperience is a way I can speak up and contribute, so I hope this is okay!🙈 • • • It's always ok to speak up for yourself! Can you relate? Whats your "favorite" (sarcasm) micro aggressions? Any missing? Let's chat! #mixedgirlproblems #mixedgirl https://www.instagram.com/p/CPvrl7rF76C/?utm_medium=tumblr
