Make a post recommending a fic you love from at least a year ago. Dust off the archives, dig through your AO3 history and share those old fics with newer fans who might not have seen them - and the fans who’ve been around forever and might want to revisit an old fave.

So, once upon a time, in the days when LiveJournal was the fandom hotspot place to be, there was this fic rec blog called crack_van/Want some candy, little fangirl?. One day, for no particular reason, I was browsing there and stumbled upon a slash fic featuring Superman and Batman. This was something I had no idea existed. Having discovered it did, it was impossible not to click and see. So I did, and... Quickly hit the back button, because that first fic was not my thing. 

I couldn’t get the idea out of my mind, however, and proceeded to look around some more, in hopes of finding something more to my liking. And then, lo and behold, one bright shiny day I discovered @mithen‘s blog there, and have never looked back since.

She has written a lot, in many fandoms, and picking just one of her stories to rec is impossible. The first two listed here are among the ones that first hooked me, but you can’t go wrong with any of them. That I ever dipped my toe in the fandom is entirely due to her, not only because of the inspiration of her own work but because of her personal encouragement along the way.

His Silicon Heart  This one is inspired by the B:TAS episode, His Silicon Soul. It will give you feels, but that’s a good thing.

Four First Kisses Yes, there’s angsty stuff, but it so, so, so worth it. 

When the Bat’s Away OK, I couldn’t actually decide between this one or Puppy Love, so, you know, have them both.

Speaking in Code Actual summary:  Clark and Bruce must go undercover at a newlywed resort to try and stop an assassination attempt.  Hijinks, UST, and reluctant making out ensue. What more could you want?

I just did a jaydick rec list, and as I was going through my personal archive I was thinking about how many good superbat fics I have, so I decided to do another rec list. This time: Superbat edition. I started with wanting to do a top ten list, but I just love so many superbat fics that I gave up with the top ten and ended up reccing 18 in-no-particular-order favorite fics, along with 4 “these are really good, too” fics. All in all there’s a lot of reading to be done here, so I hope you all enjoy! 

News Flash by Mithen G - 2,483 words I just laugh every time I read this. It’s so ridiculously funny. “Batman reveals his identity to the League and Wally West remembers his previous run-ins with Bruce Wayne in terrifying slow-motion.”

Embracing Destiny by Mithen E - 8,108 words I swear this author is brilliant. This one is just one of my all time favorites. “As a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st century, a teenaged Clark learns a stunning secret about his own future:  he and someone called ‘Batman’ will be legendary lovers.”

Words to Live By by Mithen G - 615 words Nobody judge me for having three by the same author, Mithen’s great. This one is short, sweet, and always makes me smile. “A Kryptonian sentence becomes a viral hit, much to Superman's chagrin.”

Undercover by Mithen T - 7,126 words Again, no judgement. This one is just great. “Clark and Bruce keep running into each other while in various disguises for separate investigations.” Everybody Wants You by TheResurrectionist NR - 2,974 words Absolutely hilarious. I love this one.  “A copy of People’s Magazine gets smuggled onto the Watchtower. It turns out the sexiest man alive on the front is one of their own--Bruce Wayne. Too bad Batman never takes his cowl off.”

Batman/Superman Office!AU by orphan_account All entries T&M rated - 37,132 words - 11 works - incomplete series Warning! This series is not exclusively superbat, and superbat doesn’t prominently feature in every fic, but I laugh my ass off at every fic in this series, so it’s worth the read anyway. “Bruce Wayne and his husband, Clark Kent, just wanted to build a corporate empire dedicated to the improvement of Gotham. What they got was so much more: a family. However, they don't understand how some of the the company's most brilliant minds can be so socially incompetent. How did such garbage people become crucial components to the company's success?”

World’s Finest: The Missing Issues by WingFeathers All entries G&T rated - 57,244 words total - 7 works - incomplete series This is a brand new series and already it’s one of my favorites. It’s absolutely adorable, and features Dick Grayson as a truly adorable Robin.

DC Omegaverse by Evilpixie All entries rated E - 453,921 words total - 5 works+index - complete series This is a really great series. It’s well written, and very dramatic. It’s ABO, so not for everyone, but it’s very tasteful for an ABO work. It also heavily features jaydick, and later on timkon. 

Foreign Languages by FabulaRasa E - 22,491 words Warning! This is actually mainly Dinah Lance/Oliver Queen, but the story is about Bruce and him dealing with his feelings for Clark, and it’s just so heartbreakingly beautiful I had to rec it.  “What exactly happens to your life, when you become Batman's therapist?”

Swear Jar by FabulaRasa M - 3,194 words This one always kills me, it’s so funny. “Bruce tries to teach Jason a lesson. It backfires, as all attempts to teach Jason Todd must inevitably do.”

Dilectus Meus Mihi by Mithen T - 10,934 words Oh look, another Mithen. I swear guys, just go read everything Mithen’s ever written, honestly. This one is completely heart wrenching in the very best way.  “Clark Kent has lost all his memories of being Superman, and Bruce Wayne must retrain him in the use of his powers. But his super-powered identity isn't all he's forgotten...”

His Untamed Heart by Mithen T - 3,643 words I swear I didn’t realize I had this many by Mithen when I started this list. This one is also ridiculously funny. “When Bruce Wayne discovers that the male leads of a variety of romance novels bear an uncanny resemblance to him, he decides to take matters into his own hands.”

Detective Work by Bekkoni T - 8,548 words Again, just funny and cute and I love it. “Wally finds Superman and Batman's friendship odd. Naturally, he investigates and finds a lot more than he bargained for.”

Like a Steel Trap by missigma E - 27,269 words This one is a great longer fic, and I really just love the boys in this one. Their characterization is delightfully good. “A young Bruce Wayne travels to Metropolis to try to gather more information about a mysterious new hero, Superman. After his first attempt—questioning reporter Clark Kent in his hotel room—proves fruitless, he returns to his original plan to meet the man himself. Long aware of a kidnapping plot, Bruce allows himself to be taken captive in hopes that Superman will rescue him. While Superman does make an appearance, nothing else goes according to plan.”

There’s Mist Over Your Eyes by Team_Alpha_Wolf_Squadron T - 43,907 words This author has a couple good Smallville fics if anyone’s in need of a fix. This fic is probably my favorite of theirs because it’s just so intriguing, and I love Bruce in this. “There's something not right with Bruce. Is Clarks conclusion anyway as the seventeen year old wont stop breaking into watchtower despite Alfred and Chloe's security measures and that he has a appointment at Arkham with Doctor Crane the next day. There's something not right with the world Bruce lives in and Clark is sucked into speculation and pretending to be Bruce's boyfriend as the potentially insane boy opens his eyes.”

Saying the Words (or, Why Batman Doesn’t Do Birthday’s) by FabulaRasa E - 7,166 words This is a great little fic. Just a fun read, honestly. “In constructing the Watchtower, somehow Clark and Bruce construct their own dysfunctional relationship as well. What do you do, when you need to start over?”

Conjugation by Mithen T - 1,265 words  Yeah, yeah, we’re all surprised. This is just adorably sweet. Fluff abounds.  “Bruce decides to take advantage of a slow Monitor Duty by practicing his Kryptonian with Kal-El.”

A Sense of Identity by DaaroMoltor T - 21,085 words This is just a great superbat fic, plain and simple. “It was a Thursday afternoon at the end of March, and Bruce Wayne met Clark Kent in the way enterprising billionaires tended to meet investigative reporters: Through an interview. Kent had posture like cooked spaghetti and wore his plaid like the strangest camouflage in history. Bruce was less than impressed.”

My list is clearly a little long, and while these next two fics aren’t part of my official top favorites, they’re definitely worth a read. They’re very good and entertaining and I highly recommend them.

Puppy Love, or, the Dog Prince by Mithen T - 5,231 words I know, another Mithen fic? Mithen’s just good, my friends, and this one is especially cute and funny. “Mr. Mxyzptlk decides Superman needs a break...so he turns him into a dog, with the stipulation that Clark is stuck like that until his beloved recognizes him and calls him by his birth name.”

Solitude by lacemonster E - 48,459 words I know from personal experience that it’s hard to find a good longer superbat fic, but this is definitely one.  “A retelling of Clark's early days in the Justice League and discovering the Fortress of Solitude with a Clark/Bruce twist. When Clark was a baby, he arrived in a spaceship on a farm in Smallville. Now an adult, Clark wonders about his origins, uncovering a fortress in the arctic that may contain the key information about his past. But as Clark discovers more about the wonders of Krypton, he finds himself disenchanted with his adopted planet. Meanwhile, as Clark struggles to balance his role as Superman, he finds himself scrutinized by Batman, who doesn't trust his alien powers.”

Where the Lightning Strikes by Mithen T - 4,776 words There’s just so many great fics by this author. I honestly just highly recommend pouring through her (quite literally) hundreds of works. “While double-checking Fortress security, Batman hacks into Clark's diaries.”
