I think Hayasaka has been blocking from his mind that Mafuyu is usachan man
Because she ( usachan) represents an ideal or the possibilities of being happy and enjoying a childhood he didn't have
So ignoring that Mafuyu, whom he knows as being clumsy and always looking for friends has an image that kinda doesn't go well with usachan and would shatter a little that ideal he has
But! Now he's getting to know Mafuyu better, he is seeing all these sides of her that makes her not only Kurosaki his friend, but also the great banchou she was and the loyalty and strength she posseses.
Hmm that’s an interesting thought! His image of Usa-chan Man is a very heroic ideal, it’s not very realistic - he basically compared her to Santa, after all. And even though stuff like her mask is objectively pretty lame, he thinks it’s cool because it’s Usa-chan Man. My only issue is that if he doesn’t want this ideal shattered, why does he still seem happy when he realizes Mafuyu is Usa (before being convinced she’s not)? I think he has an internal conflict over it.
Yes, I love that their bond is deepening and he’s appreciating her more and more. Too bad he doesn’t know about the banchou part yet haha.
