I think New Jersey is a sad, sad man. (He would smoke himself to death if he got the chance.)
With the oddly common (at least in circles I've been in) New Jersey stereotype via the state's "split personality" (Southern Portion: Philly, Northern Portion: NYC) I think he's just miserable due to conflicting inner beliefs. I personally just see him as a pathetic, stupid grumpy little man who ended up being the unlucky winner of the genetics lottery which made him into.. the fucking nj devil, he is also miserable as fuck because he can't help but fight himself and everyone else.
I think he'd just kill himself if he had to pick which brother (Penn or York) of his he should "become one with", or be murdered and consumed by. (The best way I can explain this without annexation, they're personifications, not the land itself.)
On the topic of New Jersey, I've had several people I know mention AVGN every time I mention him and now I can't help but associate him with it. Please save me from this hell, I do not want to keep thinking about New Jersey whenever someone slightly mentions Angry Video Game Nerd.
