Like Red either thinking they're a happy family and wanting that, or even getting a hint that Purple is unhappy and that being more than enough prompting to "save" them.

Sure, saving them might kidnapping Purps to put in an even tighter cage, right at Red's side. Red delusionally thinking they're pulling a Bonnie and Clyde, on the run from MIRA and Purple's awful spouse.

And for Purple, the former best friend that they are NOT on speaking terms with just kidnapped them and their baby must be so scared. Not knowing if Pink is actually looking cause like, why would they when this is just a transactional relationship and presuming Purple is dead would be so much easier.

BUT YES. Tbh, I don't even think it takes much to convince Red that Purple is unhappy. They HAVE to be. They just HAVE to be. It's PINK. No wonder Red never heard from Purple again.

I feel like. The kidnapping would happen on Polus. It's too risky to do it on base planet. It's tooooootally normal and okay to kidnap someone you haven't spoken to in six years bcos you SUSPECT their spouse abuses them, right?

Pretty sad, tho, bcos Orchid is usually with Pink, in their home on the base planet where MIRA HQ is. It's a much more stable life for a first-grader. So Purple's on this ship with strangers and RED. While their crew has no idea where they went, and they don't have their kid.

Red won't believe them when they say they're fine, they're MANAGING, they have everything under control, bcos Red thinks they got that "Stockholm syndrome" thing, won't turn back or bring them back, and Purple has an upcoming check-in call that they've definitely missed by now.

Bcos their crew takes that call.

(It's also. So funny. That Purple thinks Pink doesn't give a shit if their contract spouse is dead or what, and Purple is more worried about Orchid and their friends.

WANDERING: leaving hickeys, looking up to watch their reaction, worshipping their body, nipping their skin, pressing them back down, biting gently CASUAL: upon meeting or separating, when entering a room, just because, on the cheek or forehead or hand, from behind while getting ready and watching in the mirror

"Is all this really necessary?"

It isn't. They're certain of it.

"Why wouldn't it be?" Pink answers, like a douche.

Pink's annoyingly long, spindly fingers drag down their hair, pulled up in some ridiculous contraption that feels more like a medieval torture device than a hairstyle.

"When I agreed to this sham," Something glittery tinkles whenever Purple so much as moves, shimmery in the corner of their vision, like the blade of a guillotine. "I don't remember being your little dress-up doll as part of the terms and conditions."

"You make such a good one, though." Pink reaches from behind them, over their shoulders, to fiddle with the buttons of Purple's shirt. A light, airy thing that swishes when Purple turns to deck them.

Pink catches them by the wrist.

"No spouse of mine is to be seen looking so unkempt."

"Marrying you was a mistake." Being unemployed, twenty-one, and coerced at the time aren't excuses.

"I should say the same." Pink holds them still by the chin, forcing Purple to look ahead, right in the mirror.

"All that willfulness," Pink squeezes at their jaw, chin on Purple's shoulder while they run their mouth. "It'd be unbecoming if you weren't so lovely."

There were better options. There were worse outcomes. Twenty-one year olds don't know jack shit.

"Are you done?"

"Not quite." Pink lets go. "There's one more thing."

They're gonna be late. This anal bitch is gonna make them late. Whatever it is better be damn worth it.

"Close your eyes." Pink puts their palm over Purple's visor. "It's a surprise."

Something jingles in the darkness. Pink's cold fingers touch their cheek. Then—

"Hey—!" Purple jerks, grabbing the side of their face.

"There we go." Pink tucks a bit of hair behind Purple's ear. "Look at that."

It's an earring. A rosy, matte stone hangs on blush-polished metal hook.

"It's seaglass." Pink explains, holding the pendant against their fingers. "They're usually very common but this one is special."

Pink's mouth comes dangerously close to their earlobe. It's warm.

"The color comes from depression-era perfume bottles and other vanity products that have found their way to the ocean." They continue to whisper, a ticklish sound that toses and turns in Purple's guts.

Pink pokes at their nose.

"I thought you'd appreciate it, as a novice historian." The corners of Pink's lips turn up in their reflection. They almost look like they're smiling. "Do you like it?"

It's pretty.

"It's fine."

"Hm." Pink hums. "Just 'fine'?"

The earring jingles.

"What else do you want me to say?"

Pink's arms come around their middle.

"You make things so difficult." Pink says, breath hot on Purple's neck. "It suits you, though."

The earring jingles.

"Most everything does."

Jingle jingle jingle.

Their spouse kisses them, fervently, the slow touch of a lover up their pulse. Their hands are heavy and blistering, even through the silk, weighed over Purple's ribs, their hips, the curve of their thigh.

(It's almost believable, like this, Pink nosing along their jaw, around the shell of their ear, teeth on the earring, jingle jingle jingle.)

They're going to be late.

Pink tugs at the skin of their collarbone.

They're going to be so late.

Then, as quick as it starts, Pink sighs against the pin in their hair.

"We'll be leaving in ten minutes." Pink presses one more kiss to their temple. "Try not to be too distracting until then."

Pink lets go, closing their bedroom door quietly behind them.

Sometimes, just sometimes, their marriage almost seems…

Purple touches their earlobe, hot and throbbing.

THEY DRANK TOO MUCH. THEY OVERDID IT. Didn't even fight when Pink pulled them in to take a nap before going home. I do think Purple got that loose bcos they cannot survive a party around Red sober.

They'd just be. So CUTE. They're snoring. Their mouth is hanging open. They smell like liquor and cigarette smoke. The top buttons of their shirt are unbuttoned, with some food stain on the collar. They're a mess. And Pink just. Plays with their hair and gently kisses Purple's forehead.

While Red watches.

And the implication that Pink KNOWS Red's been trying to contact Purple. They know the call logs. The pending correspondences. Red's vehicle circling their neighborhood. It's honestly pathetic.

"You said you wouldn't lay a finger on them if I signed."

"I said they'd be unharmed." Pink shifts and Purple burrows into their chest deeper. They really are truly out of it. "Do they seem harmed to you?"

And Purple DOESN'T. They've gained weight. Their eyebags are thinner. They seem healthy and comfortable and, fuck, happy. They seem happy.

"I've tolerated your persistence, only because they've been dutiful enough to ignore it." Pink brushes a bit of hair out of Purple's face. Purple sniffles, unaware.

JUST. Lifting Purple up easy. They're tired and obviously inebriated. They should wake up clean, in bed, and at home. They'll definitely have a headache they'll complain about, gritting their teeth while they refuse to take any medication. What a confusing person they've managed to marry.

PLS. They absolutely would. Purple's office is FILTHY. There are styrofoam cups of coffee dredge everywhere, they're using a pencil holder as an ash tray, and they smell like energy drinks. It's gross.

Purple would be SO fussy, like a goddamn CAT. It's really amusing that Pink would think this is disgusting and unbecoming of Purple, but then they PERSONALLY carry Purple to the bathroom. I'm literally blushing thinking of Pink bathing Purple, omg.

Bcos you know they'd sulk so hard. They don't have TIME for this. They're either a detective, journalist, or maybe this is still Polus AU and Purple's working on plans for the new shelters MIRA is planning for the colony. But whatever it is they're working on, Pink is being a NUISANCE.

JUST. PINK GENTLY WASHING PURPLE'S HAIR. GETTING ALL THE GUNK OUT. Commenting on how their hair has gotten longer. Makes them look lovelier. Pink has a few ideas on the style.

I DO, TOO. I've been gushing about MIRACam for a bit now with @/nectarmouth, but just. I just think Pink and Purple's dynamic would be interesting. And YES, Purple is just. So freaking cute. They're just so GENUINE and LOVING and intent on doing good, but ANGRY and TIRED and so, so FULL TO BURSTING.

And yes!! Agreed!! God, Green would get jealous. Bcos Purple fights back with them? Purple is mouthy. Purple is snarky. Purple's constantly thinking of another way to squirm out of a situation, so clever even when they're so afraid.

But with Pink? It all just. Stops. There's a difference, between the fear of a person and the fear of an animal, and that's what Purple smells like. An animal, a helpless sort of acceptance of the inevitable, stock-still while Pink lets their fingers fall through Purple's hair. They aren't even TALKING, they're just. Smiling at Purple. They smell so PLEASED.

* Pink being the third party in question would be soooo fun and messy. Red, how far would you go for Purple when in the face of the catalyst behind everything that went wrong with your life? Green, how does it feel having another much powerful entity (and a possible stronger, cleverer imposter) take away your own prey?

YES.

God, I have. A liiiiiittle WIP of Pink "convincing" (dubconning) Purple to sign the NDA and it plagues my mind now and then. But completely convinced that Pink has been monitoring Purple the whole time they've been blacklisted, and even turned a blind eye to Red sneakily trying to hire Purple, just bcos it's interesting.

I need an AU of Green surviving, and the three of them ending up in Industria where Pink is waiting. And Purple kinda. Trickle-truths their awful experience with Pink last time they had to talk with them.

Which just. Horrifies both Green and Red.

Red attending a MIRA party and there's Purple...with a wedding ring. With Pink's arm on their hip. And a mini crewmate, orchid purple, lingering close.

I truly adore atticspouse/contract marriage Pink and Purple bcos they have such WILDLY different perspectives of their relationship(?).

Purple thinks they're together bcos Pink wants a protege, while also keeping an eye on Purple's more rebellious tendencies. It's convenient, transactional, and entirely professional. The marriage is a legally binding contract, and their child is collateral. Don't think about the constant fucking that happens on the side.

While Pink is, "You are the most interesting thing in my life and I have given you a very long, generous chain."

Okay, maybe Purple being on Polus isn't the traditional atticspousing, but I think it meets the requirements of an atticspouse. Purple's entire career and livelihood hinges on Pink's favor of them. Even if Purple's achievements are entirely due to their own hard work, bcos Pink would have happily just assigned them a high position in HQ— it's really entertaining watching Purple struggle and work their way up on their own— Purple is fully aware one wrong move and Pink could ruin everything they've worked for. Keep their child away. The center of control is still Pink.

Polus is far away but Polus is still part of MIRA territory. Pink can absolutely reach them there, that's what the regular check-ins are for. You're far but not that far, love. Purple has a much wider attic, but in the end, it's still an attic.

I like to think most people don't know who Purple's ring is for. The Polus crew certainly doesn't know. Pink doesn't even wear a ring on their finger, they probably have it in a box somewhere, or on a chain around their neck hidden under their clothes. Maybe Pink's bodyguards and secretary are the only people who know who Purple is to Pink. I'm sure most people don't even know about Orchid, or they know them as Purple's kid. (I want everyone to know that Pink LOVES that Orchid looks more like Purple. It's one of the reasons they really are quite fond of their child.)

I'm imagining baby Purple being read a book of fairytales, maybe by Joshie, (a start to their mythology interest) and adult Purple flashing back to that time when they and Pink are in the bedroom and Pink decides now is a good time to tell Purple that they're an imposter.

(For context, if you didn't know: The Lindworm is a Beauty and the Beast type story, where a cursed dragon prince demands to be married before his younger brother. The first two times, two princesses are brought in and learn that they're marrying a dragon...at the altar. He then eats them during the wedding night. The third bride, a shepherdess, saves him.)

That was such a lovely story, I really like fairytale and folklore horror and how. Charming but twisted and kinda confusing but endearing most fairytales can be.

I bet Joshie got this huge book of fairytales from their local library and never gave it back. It's sweet that they'd read to little Purple back then, so they don't feel lonely. Maybe Joshie spent a lot of time at Purple's house bcos their own parents fought a lot and Purple's carrier was at work a lot.

I do think Purple would be horrified, tho. And the confusion of something like... Pink, can be gentle with them. But also, Idk how Purple's moral compass can put together Pink as a the thing they are and what confused feelings Purple has about them. Somehow, the problem isn't that Pink is an alien but the way they perpetuate and enable the persecution of others is the problem. XD
