He could hear Minimus and Megatron puttering around in the washracks. Rodimus squeezed his eyes shut and pressed his face into his pillow. His thighs and hips ached, and there was a dent in his collar that he really wanted to heat up and work on popping out. He was also sticky in a lot of his joints. Showering would be good.
But Mins and Megs were in there, and he could hear them being sweet with each other.
He could still hear them, soft laughs, the press of metal on metal, Minimus shushing Megatron so that Rodimus couldnāt hear. Couldnāt interrupt. Primus, he was stupid, why was he here? Just getting in the way.
Megatron laughed again, a low noise, and this time when Mins hushed him it was with a quiet scold about waking Rodimus. The pit in his tanks gnawed at him, he should just go, so they could enjoy their morning. He wanted to crawl into someones lap and cry, but the only people he wanted other than them was Drift and Ratchet and they were having their own private morning he shouldnāt fucking invadeā
Rodimus pressed his face harder into the pillow and swallowed hard. This was supposed to be fun. They were his friends, he loved themāand they loved each other, and that was that, that was all.
The berth dipped and a hand tugged gently at Rodimusā shoulder. āTime to wake up,ā said Megatron with some amusement, prying him away from the pillow, his hand tracing over the curve of his shoulder and dipping into the seam of his arm. āI want to make sure we have time to clean you upāRodimus? Whatās wrong?ā
Rodimus shook his head and tried to turn his face away but Megatron caught his jaw and tugged him up into his lap, holding him close, stupidly, perfectly like Rodimus wanted.
āAre you alright?ā said Megatron, eyes scanning Rodimusās frame carefully, fingers gently probing at metal. āDid we push too far with you last night?ā
āIām fine, go keep Mims company,ā groused Rodimus, tugging his face away. āIām being stupid, thatās all.ā
āIf it's upsetting you like this then it's a stupid I want to help with,ā said Megatron, giving up on checking him over and rubbing the back of his shoulder where his spoiler covered the plating. āIt can hardly be worse than anything on our desk.ā
āEverything waiting for a captainās attention right now is of formal importance,ā scolded Minimus, climbing up onto the berth on his other side and loosely clasping Rodimusās hand. āPlease tell us whatās wrong? We can promise not to mock you, if that would be reassuring.ā
Rodimus snorted, not quite able to pull his hand away, soaking in the comfort they were giving him even though it would make it that much harder when he had to leave. āItās fine. Iām fine, I didnāt mean to mess up your shower.ā
āYou didnāt,ā said Minimus seriously, rubbing his hand gently. āMegatron assured me he could comfort you until I finished the first stage of cleaning and that heād yell if you were injured. If it would make you feel better you could join us to clean up?ā
Rodimus was close enough to hear how carefully Megatron suspended his vocals for that moment, and he pressed down the bubble of hysterical laughter at Minimusās priorities. He couldnāt quite stop the wave of sadness thoughāso many accommodations for his bullshit he kept dropping on them.
Both of them gripped him tighter at that, and Rodimus realised that whatever his emotions had done was showing in his face or frame. He swore, trying to hide his face again, and Minimus tutted loudly, rocking up and pressing a kiss to the bridge of Rodimusās nose.
His facial insignia brushed against Rodimusās chevron as he pulled back. āPlease talk to us,ā he urged. āI donāt want to leave you pushing anything down to fester when we can help you work through it.ā
Megatron hummed in agreement, his engine a low and reassuring rumble. When he spoke it sounded like he was choosing his words very carefully. āI understand, when people are reaching out their hands, that it can be difficult to trust that youāll be caught safely.ā
Rodimus shook his head immediately, processor reeling a little from the attention that was a little too focused on him, his emotions. Megatron kept speaking though, his hand gently stroking that same pattern under his spoiler.
āWeāwe are here for you. We care about you and want to catch you,ā finished Megatron, sounding like he was swallowing something with great difficulty.
āI know,ā said Rodimus, unconvincing even to his own ears. āI know, itās fine, I didnāt mean to worry you.ā
Minimus and Megatron shared a look over his head, and Rodimus felt his spark sink as they had some kind of silent argument. Minimus was the one who spoke, and he braced himself, ready for the gentle let down. Too much. He was always too fucking much for people, making his problems too loud.
āWould you like us to call Drift and Ratchet?ā asked Minimus hesitantly. āIf youād feel more supported with their company, instead.ā
What? Rodimus stared at him blankly, and Minimus had another one of those complicated silent conversations over his head.
Megatronās grip tightened around his waist. āWe do know theyāve been courting you as well,ā he said, sounding like he was trying to inject good humour into his tone and failing. āIf youād be happier sharing your ills with them, we can call them, or walk you over there. Whatever would make you comfortable.ā
āWhat?ā blurted Rodimus without thinking, pushing back into his grip. āThatās notāIām notāno oneās courting me, Iām just bouncing between you four, Iām trying not to get in your wayāā
āRodimus!ā snapped Minimus, sounding alarmed, and Rodimus winced. āYouāre not in the way. Youāreāweād never presume to claim you, we donāt want to diminish your feelings for Drift and Ratchetāā
āThough if you want to stay with us forever weād be happy to steal you awayāā
Minimus smacked Megatronās knee and increased his volume to talk over him, though Rodimus already felt like he was reeling from that alone.
āOr theirs for you, but you must know that Megatron and I consider you an equal part of our relationship.ā
Minimus laced his fingers together with Rodimusās and squeezed gently, maintaining an uncanny level of eye contact. Warm lips pressed to the back of his head, and when he looked up Megatron kissed his lips. āOfficial or not, you are our third,ā Megatron said firmly, holding his gaze. āAnd if you ever feel that Ratchet and Drift arenāt holding you to appropriate regard we will claim you and conjunx you in a sparkbeat.ā
Minimus smacked his knee again, and Megatron ignored it, still holding onto Rodimusās gaze.
āWe respect your relationships and feelings,ā said Minimus, impatiently, glaring at Megatron. āPossessiveness aside.ā
Megatron sniffed, his vents flaring and Rodimus felt a strange burble of laughter flood through him, squeezing his eyes shut. āWhat?ā he said, wanting to scrub the coolant from his face but not wanting to let go of Minimus or pull away from Megatron. āI donāt. I mean, slag, I love you both, Iām sorry.ā
āYou have nothing to apologise for,ā said Minimus with a frown. āAre you feeling alāoh for the love of Primus!ā
Someone was at the door, having forgone regular notification to bang loudly on it. Megatron rolled his eyes to the ceiling and sighed deeply, and Minimus stood, kissing Rodimus on the head and going to see who it was.
āExcuse me, weāreāoh, Drift is everything alright?ā
āI donāt know, is it?ā snapped Drift from the doorway, stepping around Minimus and making a beeline for Rodimus, ignoring Megatronās glare. āRoddy, are you okay?ā
Rodimus stared up at him, mystified, before he realised that there was a strange tugging on his spark that eased the closer Drift got to him, and he flushed deeply. Theyād never bonded, but Drift was the only one heād ever shared sparklight with, and theyād done so enough times to have an awareness of each other.
āIām okay,ā he said, trying not to laugh as Driftās frown deepened. Now he was paying attention to his own systems he could feel Driftās sharp concern up against him, reaching out with comfort, and he had a collection of messages waiting for his attention.
Ratchet: Are you alright?
Ratchet: Drift is worried. If you donāt need help can you reassure our idiot of that?
Ratchet: If you do need help heās on the way. Iām in medbay and I can fix whatever it is.
Ratchet: If you need someone to put Minimus and Megatron in their place I can do that too.
Rodimus: Heās here, Iām okay.
Rodimus: Thanks Ratch.
Ratchet: Good. Let him pamper you since Iām not there to help.
Drift was attempting to worm his way into hugging Rodimus, without much luck since Megatron was unwilling to relinquish his grip and Rodimus did laugh this time, resetting his vocaliser to clear it. He squirmed a little to sit up in Megatronās grip and leaned forward to press his head against Driftās shoulder.
āIām okay, I promise,ā he said, pushing as much emotion as he could into the words and his spark along with it. āI know Iām awful at understanding thingsāā
āUnderstatement,ā said Drift immediately, but the pulse of affection from him was so strong that Rodimus shivered, laughing.
āI donāt deserve any of you,ā he muttered into Driftās shoulder.
āDonāt be stupid,ā chided Megatron. āYou deserve to be cherished properly.ā
Rodimus tried not to flinch, and was only half successful.
āYou do,ā said Drift firmly. āAnd we do, cherish you. If these two havenāt lived up to thatāā
āAnd if Drift and Ratchet have ever failed toāā
āStop it,ā snapped Minimus, waving his hand between Megatron and Driftās faces. āThis is exactly what we are supposed to avoid doing. Stop pressuring Rodimus one way or another.ā
Warmth burned low in Rodimusās chest and he swallowed, letting himself trust just a little. āThanks Mims,ā he said, reaching for him around Drift. āSorry, I didnāt wanna worry you all.ā
āThatās what weāre here for,ā said Drift serenely. āBecause we love you and cherish you.ā
āYeah,ā said Rodimus, smiling against the warm plating. āI think Iām starting to get that.ā
šš whoever you are, thank you.
