So, I’m seeing Shinjeki no Kyojin stuff resurfacing and it made me think, I’d really like to see a YOI SNK AU.

Like, picture this.

Viktor would be the equivalent of Levi. The Living Legend, known as the best of the best. He has the highest titan kill count in the history of the Survey Corps, and is well known for being agile and graceful when using the Vertical maneuvering equipment.

When he was 16, only a year after joining the Corps, he got separated from the rest of the teams on an exploratory mission, and actually spent five whole days on his own outside the walls. And he survived. That’s when his reputation started to be known. A living legend for those who dreamed of living outside the walls.  

Commander Yakov of the Survey Corps has been staying behind on missions due to old age but he’s been training Viktor to take over. Everyone pretty much looks to Viktor as the Commander outside the walls.

 As a child, Yuuri had always admired the Survey Corps for their bravery, because he felt that was something he greatly lacked. At age 12, he saw Viktor Nikiforov for the first time and he was mesmerised. Since then, he’s followed the Living Legend’s accomplishments devotedly. He was even inspired by him to train in the military, with his two childhood friends, Yuuko and Takeshi.

Unfortunately, his final exam took place in front of all the commanders and their best men, and it came as no surprise that Viktor was there too. Of course, Yuuri choked and performed more poorly in front of his idol, and although the Corps were willing to accept anyone, he overheard Viktor arguing with Yakov about raising their acceptance standards, because young soldiers with little talent just ended up feeding the titans. 

Yuuri was convinced they were talking about him (though it was simply a general discussion, and although Yuuri didn’t do his best, his anxiety made it seem much worse than it was). Discouraged and a little heartbroken, he ends up choosing the Garrison along with Takeshi and Yuuko (since none of them made the top ten and so couldn’t choose the Military Police Brigade).

 Years later, Yuuri is a ‘dime-a-dozen’ Garrison officer, and Viktor is getting ready to take over as Commander of the Survey Corps.

At his initiation ceremony, a political affair where Yakov hands over the reins, the other Commanders are present, as well as a variety of officers, including Yuuri. We pretty much get the drunk banquet scene here (Yuuri is depressed and gets drunk because his dog died), where a tired–from-titans Viktor falls hard. And so begins the start of his lesson that there’s more to life than fighting for freedom, because you’ll want to be capable of enjoying that freedom one day.

 Months later, Viktor makes an excuse (as Commander, despite Yakov’s yelling about taking his position seriously) to visit the Garrison’s barracks (in search of the drunk dancing officer, duh) and comes across Yuuri practising with his 3DM gear (as he always does when stressed). And he is amazing. Such talent would surely benefit the Corps and, as Commander, it’s Viktor’s job to bring Yuuri in as a new recruit.

 A Garrison member switching to Survey Corps is unheard of, a surprising development to all, but Viktor does love surprises. Yuuri gets put with Squad Leader Celestino, and quite luckily, his old friend from the military training days, Phichit. As Commander, Viktor doesn’t have the time to train new recruits, but he makes an exception for Yuuri (his excuse being that someone older, wiser, and with years of servitude under someone else needs a different kind of training than the other recruits, and only he, Viktor can do it).  

 Yuri Plisetsky, a distant relative of Yakov’s, has grown up exposed to the Survey Corps. It’s no surprise that he joins the ranks at age 15, and that he is good. Naturally, he throws a fit about Yuuri’s special training with Viktor and demands he be the one trained by the Living Legend. Hence the Onsen on Ice equivalent competition.
