To my knowledge, this is the first time ever the telepathic link between Kirk and Spock appears in Star Trek media. It's from "Shell Game", a british comic published in 1973. (And yes, those are giant snails behind Kirk).

After this, their mind link would appear in the short story "Mind-Sifter", first published in a 1975 fanzine, and then collected in "The New Voyages" book. Most famous is its appearance in Roddenberry's TMP novelization.

It's curious how different, unrelated authors came to the same conclusion that Kirk and Spock should share their minds across space ("never and always touching and touched", you know), even when this never happened in the series. Though it's possible Roddenberry was inspired by "The New Voyages" book, since he wrote the intro.

Hiro checks his email to see a wedding invitation sent by his childhood friend, Vincent. It looks like Vincent is going to be married to his boyfriend, Dave, in Singapore and he wants Hiro to be one of his groomsmen. The wedding will be held in 6 months in Singapore City and hotel accommodation will be provided for the guests. Hiro immediately contacts Vincent and congratulates him for getting married. Vincent gives him a shy laugh before asking Hiro if he can come. Hiro happily accepts the invitation, which makes Vincent glad that his best friend will be coming.

"I'll be sending the hotel reservation to your email. Since you responded early, I could ask Dave to reserve the room for an entire week." Vincent excitedly offers.

"Awesome! Let's have some fun before you get married Vince. I heard that there are a lot of popular spots in Singapore where people like us can truly enjoy." Hiro grins.

"Not too much, I hope. I'm really not into parties." Vincent chuckles.

"Oh come on, Vince. You've always been stuck in your books for as long as I can remember. You are getting married, for effin sake. You need to experience the night life at least once in your life." Hiro states as a matter of fact.

"I really love him, Hiro. I never thought that I could have a chance like this but Dave is the only man that I'll be with. I know it sounds cheesy to you but I really love Dave and I don't want to do something that might hurt him because I know he also thinks the same." Vincent explains lovingly.

"Fine, I guess I need to plan a bachelor's party without strippers." Hiro teases.

"Hiro! That's-"

"It's a joke. I know that's not your cup of tea and I respect you for that. I'll see you soon, Vince." Hiro smiles.

"See you soon, Hiro." Vincent said before closing the video call.

Hiro sighs as he closes his eyes and stretches out his arms. Hiro never had that kind of love that Vincent has right now. Being a gay man in New York can be difficult to live with. Finding someone to fool around can be easy and fun, but that's just it, just fooling around. Looking for someone to be in a committed relationship can be tough. Everyone is busy dealing with their problems and it can be difficult to spare some of their time to cultivate each other's relationship. Hiro himself can only spend the little time he has left after his office hours to look for a quick hookup. After his conversation with Vincent, Hiro starts thinking about his life and his future.

"I guess it is also satisfying to know that someone can love me the way Vincent loves Dave." Hiro thought as he let out a sigh. "But I guess that happily ever after is not for me."

Angus wakes up on his bed and immediately bored out of his mind. He tried calling his friends last night but everyone declined his invitation to go out. It started a few months ago when one of his friends, Colton, just suddenly stopped hanging out with them. When they tried to reach Colton, they learned that Colton is now working as a volunteer firefighter in their area. They went to the fire station and saw Colton, sporting his uniform and in a much bigger body. Angus and his friends tried to persuade Colton to hang out with them but the man respectfully declined their offer, saying that he's not drinking or smoking anymore, and invited them to join the department. All of them laughed at Colton and decided that he was just a waste of their time.

Angus thought that was the end of it but in just the span of a month, his friends stopped going out to bars and clubs. For some fucked up reason, they all decided to focus on their workouts and volunteers into different government offices. Angus can't help but to feel a little shameful since if his friends can turn their lives around, why can't he? He let out his breath and decided to call his therapist for an appointment. Luckily, his therapist is free and the assistant can book an appointment for Angus on the same day. Angus agrees as he stands up from his bed and walks to the bathroom.

Angus arrives at the clinic 5 minutes ahead of his schedule, which surprises the assistant. Since Angus usually arrives late or ditches his session, the assistant thought that this might be an emergency. He immediately notifies Dr. Takenada of Angus's arrival, to which the doctor asks his assistant to send Angus to his room. The assistant drops the call and asks Angus to go inside Dr. Takenada's office. Angus thanks the assistant and proceeds to meet his therapist. Dr. Takenada has been his therapist ever since he started working as an actor. His manager asked Dr. Takenada to monitor Angus's mental health since being an actor can be mentally exhausting. So, every 4th Saturday of the month, Angus is scheduled to meet with Dr. Takenada as a way for him to work out any frustrations he had with his job.

Angus always avoided talking about his feelings and having a designated therapist can be a little suffocating for him. Angus knows that his manager meant well but he just doesn't find the idea of therapy amusing. But now that his friends are moving on with their childish habits and start working to improve themselves, Angus feels like he's been left behind. If his friends can do it, well so can he. Angus knocks on the door and waits for a response before going in. He hears Dr. Takenada's voice invites him in so he twists the knob and pushes the door open. Angus sees Dr. Takenada sitting behind his desk, looking like he's signing some documents. Dr. Takenada looks up and smiles at Angus as he welcomes his patient.

"Good morning, Angus! Give me one second since I really need to sign these release papers first. It won't be long. Have a seat while waiting." Hiro says as he continues reading the forms and signing it.

"No problem, Doc. Thanks for meeting me on short notice." Angus says as he sits down on the sofa in front of his therapist's desk.

"I'm actually happy that you did, Angus. You missed out a lot of our sessions for the past months. I called your manager and he told me that you just don't want to go." Hiro says as he finishes up signing the forms.

"Aaaaannnnnd, done! So tell me, what made you decide to talk to me today?" Hiro asks as he places the forms in an envelope before standing up from his chair, picking up a pad and pen, and sitting down on a sofa parallel to the sofa where Angus is sitting down.

"Well, it's not a big deal but all of my friends suddenly decide to hit the gym without me and join the fire station as a volunteer. We stopped hanging out together, and even when I visited them at their apartments, they all seemed out of place and distracted, for some reason, like their mind is a thousand miles away. They all told me that they don't smoke or drink anymore and they need to do something better than to waste their youth on frivolous things. They literally told me the word "frivolous"! Can you believe that? Last month, those assholes didn't even know the word for getting your nails cleaned." Angus exclaims as Hiro starts writing down on his note.

"What do you feel when you talk to your friends?" Hiro asks.

"Honestly Doc, I feel like they're calling me stupid. I feel like I don't know them anymore and I feel like they're moving on with their lives and leaving me behind." Angus admits as he sighs in defeat.

"Do you consider yourself as someone who's not moving forward with his life?" Hiro asks as he takes note of Angus's concerns.

"I don't know, Doc. I know that I shouldn't feel this way since I have a job that I love and I can live the way I want to but sometimes I just feel so empty inside. When I hear someone saying that they want the life that I have, it only makes me think about what life do I really have. Is this all that there is in my life?" Angus asks as he looks at Dr. Takenada.

"First, it's normal to feel empty sometimes even if you have a wonderful life. Doing your daily tasks and doing it over and over again can be exhausting, physically and mentally. Second, you don't have to align your lifestyle to the ideals set onto you by anyone. As you said, you can live your life the way you want to. And lastly, if you feel like you're being left behind, you need to first identify at which part of your life you feel like you're being left behind. There's always something new in life to experience. It can be a new discovery or just feeling the same thing with a different perspective. You just have to open your mind to the possible opportunities and you'll be surprised by how refreshing that is." Hiro states as he looks back at Angus.

"Thanks Doc. I really need to hear that." Angus says as he stands up and extends his hand towards Dr. Takenada.

"No problem, Angus. Just know that I'm here for you if you need to talk." Hiro replies as he takes Angus's hand and shakes it.

All of a sudden, a blinding white light envelopes the room as both men heard a high-pitch ringing before losing their vision.

Angus got stomped by how the voice asked him.

"I dunno dude. That's why I went to see Dr. Takenada. I don't know what else I can do with my life. I feel like I'm just floating around aimlessly." Angus blurts out which also surprised him.

"So you think that you have no purpose left to live?"

"Yeah." Angus admits.

"Tell me, Hiro. Is love that hard to find or are you just not letting people in?"

"I know that I'm difficult and too focused on my career that I always end up neglecting my partner. But I always see people through their facade. I spend my life studying human behavior and when I see some of their flaws, my mind just brands them as is." Hiro unwillingly confessed.

"So you're saying that if there's a chance that you can look past that flaw, you can let them in?"

"Yes." Hiro admits.

"Well then, since I have both of you here, I will grant the two of you something that will satisfy both of your wishes. From now on, one of you will be forever in charge of the other. Your minds will be forever linked to each other, one is the transmitter and the other one is the receiver. One will shape the other's future while the other will be a vessel for one's will."

"How is that supposed to work? Aren't we two different people?" Angus asks for the last time.

"All of your questions will be answered when you wake up. For now, have everything that your hearts desire. Show me the strength of your souls and make me believe that not all mortals are worthless."

Hiro opens his eyes and sees Angus sitting in front of him. Hiro's still sitting down on his sofa with his notes and pen in hand. Angus is sitting still with his head down his chest. Hiro smiles as he watches Angus sleep like a child, with the occasional twitching and heaving. Hiro looks at the clock and notices that their time is almost up so he stands up and approaches Angus.

"Angus? Are you alright? You need to wake up." Hiro says as he shakes Angus's shoulder.

Angus didn't respond to Hiro's calls and remained seated on the sofa.

"Damn, as much as I like to watch you sleep peacefully, I need to prepare for my next client. I just hope that you can wake up immediately." Hiro thought to himself.

In an instant, Angus opens his eyes and lifts his head to look at Hiro. The startled psychiatrist stumbles down on the carpeted floor of his office, grasping his chest.

"Oh hey, Doc! Sorry about that. I think I nodded off for a bit." Angus apologizes as he stands up and helps Hiro get back on his feet.

"Don't worry about it. I hope that I can see you again next month. Can I count on that?" Hiro asks as he straightens his polo.

"Of course, Doc. I really enjoyed our talk today. Thanks for your advice. I'll definitely keep that in mind." Angus replies, extending his hand towards Hiro.

Hiro accepts the handshake and watches Angus walk away from him. For some reason, Hiro's eyes are fixated on Angus's butt.

Hiro tries to clarify the situation but the manager didn't reply. He let out a sigh as he continues to take a selfie.

Angus puts on his earbuds and starts doing his cardio. After 5 minutes, he receives a call from Angus which makes him a little scared.

"Dr. Takenada? Where are you right now?" Angus hurriedly asks.

"Uhm, I'm currently working out, Angus. Do you need something?" Hiro asks.

"Yeah, I need to see you. Can you share your location? I'll meet you there." Angus immediately replies.

"If it's an emergency then let's meet in a Starbucks nearby. I'll be sharing my location." Hiro says as he wipes his sweat off his face.

"Awesome, Doc. See you then." Angus says as he drops the call.

Hiro is a little confused about what is happening but decides to meet Angus anyway. Since Angus's manager told Hiro that Angus will tell him why he decided to not see him as a therapist anymore, Hiro figured that this must be something important. Hiro packs his gym bag and walks to a Starbucks near the gym. After a few minutes, Hiro receives a text from Angus, asking him to walk out of the shop and look for a Yellow Porsche outside. Hiro walks out of Starbucks and notices Angus inside his car, smiling as their eyes meet. Angus signals Hiro to come over and opens the door to the passenger seat. Hiro immediately runs towards the car and sits down inside.

"Hey, Doc! How's your day?" Angus asks nonchalantly as he starts the car and drives.

"It was fine. I guess. Where are we going?" Hiro asks as he looks at Angus's formal attire.

"Nowhere. I just want to have personal time with you without any paparazzi snooping around. I need to tell you something important." Angus says as he looks ahead on the road.

"Oookay? Can we not go too far? My car is still parked at the gym?" Hiro weirdly asks.

"Of course, Doc. Sorry for taking your time." Angus replies as he smiles.

"So, what is it about?" Hiro asks.

"Well, I thought about what you said to me earlier and I think I now know what I want to do. I want to be with you." Angus says as he places his right hand on Hiro's thigh, tilting his head to look into Hiro's eyes.

Hiro thought that Angus was joking at first. But, as seconds pass by, without breaking their stare at each other, Hiro realizes that Angus is serious about what he just said. Angus starts rubbing Hiro's thigh which startles the stunned therapist. Hiro slowly picks up Angus's hand off his thigh and places it on the gear lever.

"Please stop the car." Hiro calmly says.

"I'm serious, Hiro. I never felt so sure now. All my life I've been trying to find something that can fill this emptiness inside me. I tried to fill it with drugs, money, and sex but I know those are not what I need. When we talked earlier, you made me realize something that I should have figured out a long time ago in just an hour." Angus solemnly explains.

"THAT'S MY JOB!" Hiro exclaims. "That's literally what your manager paid me to do. I help my patients realize what they can do to improve their lives. I'm sorry Angus but I need you to stop the car now. Since I'm not your psychiatrist anymore, I don't think I would want to see you again." Hiro says as he turns his head to the window.

"Does this idiot think that he can make fun of me because he knows that I'm gay? Is this why he showed me his butt earlier? To see how I will react? Does he think that just because I'm gay that he can joke with me like this?" Hiro thought to himself.

"Hiro, I want you to know that I mean it when I say that I want to be with you. The reason that I don't want you to be my therapist is that I am starting to like you. I know that you can't date your patients so I thought this could give me a chance with you. I will stop the car as you wish but I hope you can give me a chance to prove that I really mean what I said." Angus sincerely says as he stops the car.

Hiro was about to open the door when Angus held his hand. Hiro looks at Angus and notices his eyes tearing up. Hiro was surprised to see someone like Angus Cloud, looking like a wounded puppy.
