...It's already there tho', lmao.
Even tho' I looked at a ref when I sketched/lined the train, trains are damned hard, I kind of gave up.
I'll probably redo this eventually tho';;;...Not sure when, probably when it really starts bothering me, otl;;;.
My thoughts while working on this was:
The girl is dead, has accepted she's dead (hence why she's smiling), and was waiting for the train to the afterlife, which is the Lantern Train.
Or something, lel.
But hey--I finally drew a girl in a yellow dress .
/bricked.
Was it too silly to say Mika was in love? Maybe that was why she had insisted on waiting at the entrance for two hours. The small, carefully wrapped box of sweets was placed by her side. Only 12 years old and she was absolutely besotted. It had been a little nerve wracking walking into the old district. She stood out like a sore thumb, all long gangly limbs, wild hair and dark green eyes. Her face heated up as several pairs of eyes, all black, looked at her as they passed. She really wasn't in her element here. At least Mikoto had been kind enough to offer her some tea while she waited. Holding the hot cup in her hands [that Mika still needed to grow into] she peered into the liquid, intent on not looking anywhere else lest she make awkward eye contact with a stranger.
Finally as the sun was nearly gone and the wind had picked up she felt a familiar presence. If her hair were straight Mika would have hidden behind it probably. Quickly picking up her box and turning to face her crush, Mika felt her face burn even hotter than she thought possible. "Hi, Itachi-kun, I um, I wanted to.." Her voice cracked and Mika's heart lodged itself in her throat. Oh god!
"Yes Mika-san?" He was familiar with the girl, not overly close but she was nice enough. It was obvious that she'd been waiting for a while and the box must be for him. She just thrust her hands forward as her way of offering the gift.
"I, I made this. For you. I know you like sweets." Hopefully she didn't drop the gift before he could pull it from her shaking hands. It didn't take a genius to realize Mika's feelings, so Itachi accepted the box with a polite smile. He couldn't not take it, especially when she'd been waiting for so long.
"Thank you Mika-san." He'd share it with Sasuke, the younger boy would also be waiting for him. Itachi wasn't sure if he should clarify that he had no interest in Mika beyond platonic feelings--
Mika cut off his thoughts as she suddenly bid him a good night and all but sprinted away. She'd forgotten to give the cup back but now it'd be too embarrassing to return. So it'd lay on the ground until someone picked it up. She didn't care if Itachi shared it or if he even ate any of the candy. It'd been enough to have him take it and see him smile, even if it was the practiced, polite kind.
This girl was so careless, barreling down the street like a tornado. She just needed to get out of here and go home and maybe just never come out again! Her poor tween heart could only take so much embarrassment. It'd only get worse as she nearly slammed into someone. Whoever it was managed to dodge out of the way and Mika had enough sense to turn and apologize. "I'm sorry!" She caught a mop of curly hair and a smile that made her stop for a few beats. She'd never seen someone like that before. A strange sensation passed through her for a moment as their eyes connected.
The man, he was definitely older, simply waved his hand dismissively. "It's alright, you better get home!" Then he turned away and the connection was gone. Mika didn't give the encounter another thought as she went to her house. She didn't think about it for years in fact.
It wasn't until she was lying in bed and staring up at the ceiling that an odd thought popped into her mind. What if...what if soul mates exist? What if there was someone that existed who was meant for you? How did they find you? Was it like the fairy tales with red strings? Or maybe it was meant to feel like an accident. You bump into your soul mate in the middle of the street and it's instant love?
Did falling in love with them feel different from falling in love with other people? Mika thought back to old lovers, ones she'd lost, ones she'd given up, even the ones that had never quite been lovers. She didn't recall a special feeling for any of them. They'd all been loved and they had loved her in return, to varying degrees.
Maybe it wasn't like that. What if you didn't meet your soul mate? If it was really a thing, some people might not have one or even want one. She didn't know why this came up, probably because of that weird nagging feeling again. Something didn't sit right and Mika felt like she'd go crazy! All the woman could do was sleep and hope that she'd feel better in the morning. So with a great huff, she turned and closed her eyes.

Being a cat wasn't hard. At least not when you had a home. This one was fortunate to have been found as a kitten by her mistress. It had been cold and wet that day and the little thing had cried so loudly. Then a girl appeared, she looked like an angel. Black curls and soft warm skin. The kitten had been scooped up and taken in to be warm. She was happy. The girl gave her a name, something special but the cat didn't understand. It just made her happy to hear her mistress call for her.
"Mami!" Her mistress would call and Mami the cat would run from wherever she was. Mami loved the sweet voice that called to her. She loved the soft warm hands that scratched her head and ears. Mami loved everything her mistress did. It was a deep, unshakable love and Mami could not explain it. Even when the tom cats would call out at night she was not tempted. Mami would never leave her mistress.
Years seemed to crawl by, every day was marked by what the mistress did. She grew up from a sweet girl into a lovely woman. Her black curly hair came down her back in a curtain, her face, once round with baby fat had slimmed. Men started to come by the house to see Mami's mistress. The cat would growl and scratch at them all. She hated men. She hated anyone that would take the mistress from her. It came to the point where Mami was locked outside. So she would cry and cry for hours, pleading for the mistress to take her in. Mami didn't want to think about what those men would do to her beloved owner.'They will steal her away, my love, the mistress of my heart.'
A man had come to take the mistress away. He promised her love, a home, all those things that humans seemed to like. Mami looked on with dismay as her owner accepted this man. He would have to accept her cat as well, for the mistress always had her dear Mami. They were never apart for long. A wedding was planned and Mami could only curl herself around tangled feet in quiet acceptance.
She didn't start to feel her age until the tables became impossible to jump. Mami could no longer get to high places like before. It didn't matter, the mistress would feed her and love her regardless. The children were tolerated, though the cat wouldn't hesitate to scratch them if they pulled her tail. The best part of the day was when she slept in the mistress's lap. Those warm soft hands would stroke her back and that sweet voice talked to her softly.
Mami loved her mistress so much. Her final moments had been at the woman's side, her matted fur was lovingly caressed. Mami ached, her eyes were bad, she couldn't eat without being sick. It was alright though because the mistress loved her. She was always loved since the first time the met. The tears that dripped onto her head were a comfort as Mami closed her eyes for the last time. She would sleep until the mistress came back.
                                 ----
A strangled cry broke from Mika's lips as she bolted up in bed. It was still dark, couldn't be past five in the morning. She looked over at the clock to confirm, it was nearing six. Why was she crying?
Tears falling on her head, warm soft hands stroking her... a sweet voice singing as Mika fell asleep. The dream was quickly fading and she scrambled for the desk. Something in her knew this was important. Mika couldn't forget, she just couldn't--
A shaking pen touched paper and...nothing. Nothing came to her. Gods damn it! How could she forget? How could Mika forget this dream? It felt so important, so real. Damn it all. Tears pooled in her eyes and splashed onto the notebook. Gone. Mika couldn't stand to look at the blank pages anymore. She crawled back into bed and cried until sleep took her again. Come morning, Mika didn't remember why she had been crying.

"Everyone leaves." [post Shisui-death? pretend Kagami lived a while afterwards D: ]
Of course. This was part of being shinobi.
“I know that. You make it seem like this is new.” Despite the venom in Mika’s voice she was tired, so very tired of the funerals she attended. Only a few weeks before she had been to another one. Every time she cried into her hands and felt another piece of her break apart. Loving freely was a burden more than anything. It only led to more pain down the road.
This time was different. The pain was sharper and deeper than most, Mika truly felt gutted and for once she was terrified. Was it worth this pain? Did loving someone this much justify experiencing a love one’s death? In all honestly Mika had never loved another woman so much. Shisui had slowly taken up her whole life until they were no longer separate entities in her mind. To exist meant having Shisui by her side even in secret. The affair was doable. Mika had no qualms being with a married woman if she wasn’t in love with her husband. At least that was the new rule. Shisui had gotten her to break so many tenets of her own life and with only the slightest hesitation at the beginning.
Mika couldn’t imagine doing such things with anyone else. In all honesty Shisui was the once in a lifetime kind of woman, who wouldn’t throw everything out the window to share a moment with her? They’d enjoyed each other’s love and companionship for almost two years. Mika had watched her create life, a lovely baby girl with hair like her mother’s but a nose like her father’s. It was too bad the child wouldn’t see her mother again. Like so many other children in Konoha. Just like Mika had been. There’s a time to cry, plenty of time to cry in fact. Now she had to step in and perform as the godmother Shisui had wanted her to be.
"Kagami, you know I love her don’t you?" Her voice trembled slightly, even revealing this much felt wrong but at least it would relieve some of the burden. He didn’t respond right away so Mika continued. "I promised I’d help Nao if, if anything happened to her. I’m not going to back out on him and Nagisa. Shisui’s counting on me ne?" Putting on a brave face, Mika smiled wide and took a shaky breath. A few tears escaped her eyes, ruining the facade. "I’m going to be the best damn godmother even if it kills me."At least then, Mika could die with no regrets when she saw her lover again.
