Apps that help you make more informed decisions when shopping:
Buycott
Buycott allows you to select campaigns you care about/ things you want to avoid (e.g, chocolate produced w/o child labor, Palm oil, nestle, human trafficking, prison slave labor, Koch industries, union-made, etc), then when you scan a barcode of a product, it will tell you if the company supports or conflicts with causes you care about

Beat the Microbead
The Beat the Microbead app allows you to scan the ingredients on packaging to see if your product contains microplastics. You will immediately see if the scanned product contains microplastics and, if so, which ones.

8 Environmentally Destructive Beauty Ingredients [Visual]
There are tons of ingredients in the beauty products we use today, some good, some not so good. The beauty industry has made leaps and bounds when it comes to both personally safe and environmentally safe ingredients and packaging. However, there are still a few that should be avoided when possible. Education is key so that you can make an informed decision when purchasing products for your home.
Microplastics
What in the hell is microplastics??
They are tiny pieces of plastic that come from bigger plastics like plastic bags, bottles, and etc. They are so small that sometimes they can be smaller than the amount of shits i give about my ex, which is very very very little, its microscopic.
They are literally EVERYWHERE like the government birds (i swear the birds arent real). Its in the oceans, land, and even in our own freaking food!!!!!
Marine life mistakes them for food like how i mistake the toaster for a bath bomb. The fish end up eating the plastic and then it travels up the food chain to us.
Microbeads are a big no no. They are the little beads in our face wash, laundry detergent, body wash, and etc. They advertise the beads as "helping the process" or "making it cleaner" but its not. It ends up washing down the drain and into our oceans. They are just balls of plastic. Try to avoid any products with beads in it.

Today is #endangeredspeciesday ! Take a moment to think about what the world would be like without one of the endangered species around you, (what would the ocean be like without the orcas?!) and what you can do to help them-whether it be reduce your carbon footprint by reducing your single plastic use, changing shampoos to something microbead free or just ensuring that our waste is disposed of safely.⠀ PC: @peppermintnarwhal #talesofsavingwhales #whaletales #savethewhales #endangered #microbeads #beplasticwise #beatplasticpollution #stopsingleuse https://www.instagram.com/p/CPJFrY3npAj/?utm_medium=tumblr
Fun Fact Friday - What are microbeads?🤔
Just a few years ago, microbeads could be found in most popular facial scrubs and even in your toothpaste. Now, however, their existence is rapidly fading away. But, why? And what are they exactly?
Microbeads are tiny balls of plastic that used to be prominent in many facial scrubs across a vast number of countries.
This is because they have a smooth surface, therefore when used in a scrub they can slough away dead skin cells quickly and without causing irritation to the skin.
However, the EU, the UK and the US have all banned the use of microbeads within the past couple of years.
This follows research into how these little plastic beads wash away into the ocean from your sink, and how sea animals ingest them as a result.
Now, instead of using microbeads as a form of exfoliation, jojoba beads are one of the safest alternatives to use.
You can also find products with rice grains that can gently exfoliate your skin.
Just make sure to avoid products containing walnut shells or apricot pits, as these are too abrasive to the delicate skin on your face.
