So Iâve been tagged by the lovely @gellavonhamster for the Micro-Review Round 6 challenge. Thanks for tagging me in this! Reminded me of my abandoned friends on the shelf aha!
1. Pick a book you own but havenât read yet: Picked one up at random, so many unread books on my shelf right now! â¨Confessions of An English Opium-Eater by Thomas De Quincey.
2. How did you come by it? Given by a friend? Bought from a recommendation? Compelled by the cover? Itâs one of the ten thousand books I always wanted to read and tried to start reading twice on my computer but couldnât get into because I hate reading on my computer, then I saw it in my favourite book store in Paris and it was really really cheap and in an amazing condition for a used book so I bought it and here we are!
3. Quote the first sentence(s): âI have often been askedâhow it was and through what series of steps, that I became an opium-eater. Was it gradually, tentatively, mistrustingly, as one goes down a shelving beach into a deepening sea, and with a knowledge from the first of the dangers lying on that path; half-courting those dangers in fact, whilst seeming to defy them?â (So you feel the need to read it too now??)
4. Realistically, will you ever read it? Yes, I definitively will read it, I wouldnât have bought it otherwise. Itâs a bit like clothes: you wouldnât buy something you would never wear. I just need to finish Paradise Lost and then The Gothic Revival by Kenneth Clark to wrap up what I already started and then I think itâs going to be the next non-academic read!
I donât really know who I should tag on this! Should I say @@like-a-seagull , @mseleanorguthrie and @shortiemcbealle ? You donât have to do it of course!
