Ethan after MI3, drugged up in the hospital for post-electrocution/CPR complications and surgery to remove the charge in his head, cheerfully introducing Julia to everyone who walks in the room. Like "Hey, this is my wife!" and Luther going, "I know, I've been here five times already."
It drives me crazy thinking about Ethan gambling on trusting Benji in MI3. When we first saw Benji, he was probably one of many tech guys working for the IMF. Not particularly remarkable, to most. When Ethan rang for help in Shanghai, he was a wanted man and Benji barely knew him at the time. Helping Ethan could get Benji into life-ruining levels of trouble, and give him nothing in return... but he just does it. That one phone call changed both their lives and the entire fate of the world forever. 20 years later, they've both aged and changed, but they're still trusting each other no matter what.
i think in mi3 when ethan says “thank you for coming” and luther responds “that’s my job” luther means that’s his job as a friend like that’s what friends do for each other not this is what a spy does
