The Blink dog on the right looks like a large dog, but it's actually a teleporting fey. It's fluent in 2 languages! Just can't actually articulate anything but "blink dog," which I assume is barking.

Mezzodaemon and nycadaemon, neutral evil inhabitants of the lower planes Tarterus, Hades, and Gehenna, between the demons of the Abyss and the devils of Hell. Many now refer to the daemons as yugoloths, and these specifically as mezzoloths and nycaloths. (Russ Nicholson, AD&D Fiend Folio, TSR, 1981) They originally appeared in module D3: Vault of the Drow, 1978.
