Im not a size two, and I'll never be a size two. A few days ago I've come to realize, just because the numbers on the scale aren't going up nor down- I AM HEALTHY. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 14 years old. Dealing with it has been the bane of my existence until a few days ago. Something so small to a "normal" woman, I felt like a won a huge feat for me (I won't go into details). My consistent exercise and semi decent diet are paying off. I am more dedicated than ever. To fix myself, for myself, so I can give more to those around me. I have PCOS, but it doesn't have me. That is all. . . An ode to my roots. People like me, were never supposed to be in higher education. Even now, in 2021, librarianship is 90% White. ‘Reference Librarian’ is just a title that enables me to do what my heart loves doing, serving students and my community. It doesn’t make me better or worse than anyone. My mom and dad worked so hard for me “to have a better life”. But honestly, I think their life was pretty great, and im building mine with equity and integrity. I’m privileged to be American-born and had a two parent household growing up. Im privileged to be educated and have my degrees. My parents taught me hard work, empathy, compassion, and wisdom. Paying it forward has always been my M.O. and I will continue to do my best. I know who I am and where I come from. I got what I needed this weekend. I've been struggling with my mental health. I've gained 30 pounds. School is stressful. My boss at work is a passive aggressive annoyance. But all of that doesn't matter because I'm still in the game. It doesn't matter if I'm running, jogging, walking or crawling to the finish line. I will accomplish everything I set my heart to and that's what keeps me going. This life I'm living right now. It's only temporary. Nature does heal. It's not for hippies. Tree huggers. Is for people that appreciate it's healing powers. This weekend has been everything I needed. I am love I am strength I am smart
