An ode to my roots. People like me, were never supposed to be in higher education. Even now, in 2021, librarianship is 90% White. ‘Reference Librarian’ is just a title that enables me to do what my heart loves doing, serving students and my community. It doesn’t make me better or worse than anyone. My mom and dad worked so hard for me “to have a better life”. But honestly, I think their life was pretty great, and im building mine with equity and integrity. I’m privileged to be American-born and had a two parent household growing up. Im privileged to be educated and have my degrees. My parents taught me hard work, empathy, compassion, and wisdom. Paying it forward has always been my M.O. and I will continue to do my best. I know who I am and where I come from.
