Understand that sometimes you will be used, playing the role of a bandage laid across a temporary internal wound. Yes, they may have illuminated shadows of you that you were unaware existed. And yes, it really does suck and hurt at first. But now you know, now you can grow, and now you can accept yourself on deeper and higher levels. And understand that this is not the last person to do so. Accept that you do this to people too. Do not let it harden you: please continue to nurture, please continue to love. Forgive them. And forgive yourself for ever believing you had to put up with it, or for feeling like you didn't see it coming. After all, we're human and we can't always get things right. Don't become your pain. I'm still learning how to love someone and not feel entitled to their affection and attention in return. Sometimes to love someone without expectations seems impossible. But then I remember who I am: I AM Love. It has never been separated from me and then in that moment of rediscovery, I return to gratitude and warmth again.
